Don't engage with buyers like these. Politely but firmly state your position and leave it at that.
  • Thanks for guidance all !

Update - they have accepted the lower £3.99 partial refund I offered ,through Ebay ( must have really wanted that shirt ! )

    - seems a bit daft now looking at it arguing about £3.99 and £4.99 refunds ,but thats us Ebayers for you !!

Shame you caved in. They'll move onto the next seller now.
  • OP, report this buyer for abusing the buyer protection program, there is a report a buyer link on your seller dashboard.

This buyer knows exactly what they are doing and you won't be the only seller who has had issues.

  • well I was prepared to wait for its return and give a full refund and sent the last two messages saying just that , I didn't agree to the £3.99 refund , they must have gone back through the case details and re activated that offer and Ebay sanctioned it ( at least I didnt agree the full amount they wanted )

Its just the way Ebay is set up nowadays to favour the buyers - you hear so many cases where they refund the buyer AND allow them to keep the item as well
    - with Ebay giving them until October 1st to return it it for a full refund anyways , can you imagine what sort of condition it would have turned up in ,giving another two weeks - ( even if they did send the ACTUAL item ? )

Yep, sadly that is the case. bad rep is on the way, so why give them £4 as well, it's near enough to £5.

It sends a message, that most sellers will roll over eventually, if you push hard enough.

Buyers like these are crooked, and he has just been rewarded for it.

its the way that Ebay has set up now - no back up for sellers - if a buyer wanted to they can find any fault with any item - especially pre used / worn clothes

Although you might hear of 'many' cases where the buyer gets to keep the item and gets a refund (and personally I hear of very few) in those instances seller does not have to refund, ebay issue a no fault refund on their behalf. Personally I believe you have just paid £3.99 to a chancer when you needn't have.
