talliwillow, my response to your circumcision thread

Im new to this topic, and dont knwo what was said, Ive defended a friend on this one, as her son was circumcised, she is British and married to a Texan, it is something she never had an opinion on, like me i guess!
I realy wouldnt see peircing your childs ears (vanity in my eyes) to cicumcision !
her husbands family ofcourse expected her son to circumcised and she was realy confused and when she asked for advise was shocked by some peoples negative responses, she had some very nasty things said to her, which were totally unecessary.
Having lost a friend to cervical cancer one of the things that got bought up during her search for WHY and HOW ? was that in countries where circumcision is very common, cervical cancer figures are very very low. surely this gives something to work on ? ?
Knowing quite a few men who play professional sports, who shower 3 times a day, many have commented positively on circumcision, the amount of times they sweat etc.
I wish i had seen this thread earlier.0 -
What an interesting debate. I'm not in favour of elective circumcision for newborns. I think as long as young men are taught good personal hygiene there is no reason to suggest it is somehow cleaner to be 'cut'. And as another poster said, you are just as susceptible to STD's.
The term 'hanging' makes it sound like the foreskin is a baggy sock! I can assure you it is more like a well fitting hat!0 -
Too right! Hairless legs would save me hours of plaiting in the winter and shaving in the summer!
Re: circumcision - I'm interested in the way people have described the skin as hanging - that, to me, makes it sound like it is an extra piece that looks stuck on and awkward! It's an integral part of the penis and doesn't look at all odd or 'extra' to requirements (well dh's doesn't at least!)
I think the infection argument is a bit of a non-starter for me too because a condom would solve that issue anyway and I'd hate to give women the impression they are somehow safer riding 'bareback' if they choose a bloke without his foreskin!!! Unsafe sex is unsafe sex after all.
As for the wasing issue - I don't really get that one either. If we women can keep our bits clean (being behind doors so to speak) then I'm sure a bit of retractable skin isn't a barrier to men cleaning theirs.
Just my thoughts of course but I'd need a better reason than either of the above to have my son circumcised for anything other than medical reasons! I can empathise more with religious views than cleanliness ones, that's for sure, although I'm not in agreement with either.
Absolutly agree with everything you have said! My partners doesnt hang eithier, if it did id chop it off myself!
The cleanliness one makes me laugh! Have your son circumcised to save 30 seconds in the shower giving his winky a good scrub! C'mon!0 -

and if you know anything about boys then you will know that they will probably enjoy that 30 seconds good scrub more than any other point of the shower!KittyKate wrote:baggy sock!
ewwwwww! :rotfl:
i said it on the last thread and i will say it again, if there is a medical need then of course it should be done, but for any other reasons including religious ones, i dont agree with it at all,
i refuse to believe that on the day of your death when your stood at the gates of heaven (should this improbable place exist) that you are going to have to wave your todger about for inspection before they let you in....
if anything, i reckon doing that will get you shipped off to the other place0 -
As an ex nurse, I can assure you that there are foreskins that 'hang'!
It is not a pretty site! Men complain about droopy boobs, well, some women don't like foreskins that 'hang'! :rotfl:
That said, my oldest son was circumcised at 4 due to a narrowing of the foreskin. Just couldn't retract it. My youngest son has a perfectly formed, neat foreskin that shouldn't cause any future problems.
I think circumcise only when medically necessary.0 -

Hehe, I know there are, I just sort of assumed they were rareMy friend at Uni dated (briefly) a guy who she described as having a 'pyramid penis' because he had so much foreskin (about an inch 'too much') that it came to a point over the top like a pyramid. I must admit, that would put me off (for attractiveness and hygiene reasons).

I remember a long time ago reading something along these lines... BUT there is far more of interest here than the circumcision aspect. Reading around I realised that frequency of sex may be more of a factor here. Studies done in the countries where circumcision is routine say in Jewish/ Arab countries don't factor in that there tends to be a stigma around having sex with women at the time of menstruation, and for several days after, and also for a period of time after delivering a baby. This cuts down the number of times a month, and at specific times, when sex is "permitted". Perhaps more research might be done on frequency or having sex at times when maybe the cervix is more vulnerableis needed rather than systematic removal of an integral part of a boy's/man's body.
I read the other thread with interest as I have two boys, but I didn't feel that I could contribute to the OP's query/discussion. I felt I had to add this here as the correlation with cancer might be seen to some people as a good reason for circumcision.
