Landlord Insurance

Hi,
Can anyone recommend an Insurance company for Landlord Insurance please. I have done the usual price comparisons, but unless you have made a claim, you won't know if they are good.
Also i have never heard of some of the company names & after watching an episode on Fake Britain about fake insurance companies, I don't want to jump in headfirst.
The last post on this forum was in 2010, so i need more up-to-date feedback please.

  • I took out landlord insurance with towergate, I think it was through a third party provider called CIA or something similar. We had an oil spill at the property in January and the insurer paid out without any problems.

Also something to be aware of that I never knew, a lot of landlord insurance companies wont accept DHSS tenants on the policy or you need to pay a premium.

Out of interest how much are DHSS or unemployed people able to claim for rent?

I know a couple close to me and neither of them work but they have two kids. They live in a much better property than I do and it's rented through a private LL. They've been there for years too.

Yes Insurance companies that offer DHSS cover are fewer so expect to pay more.

Compare the local brokers, most of who offer LL insurance

I would expect an allowance of around £75 per week that DHSS tenants are allowed.

Did you decide to just pick a random number from the air?

An ex colleague used to get £70 p/w but that was two years ago so I expect he is now getting £75. Am I wrong?

It depends on a number of different factors, kid’s ages, genders, area etc. Unless your ex-colleague’s circumstances are exactly the same, yes, you are probably wrong.

Yes I didn't take into account the Post Code factor, I never got either how £70 would have covered him as his rent was bound to have been more and he doesn't work at all.
