  • My three dogs have in the past...removed a birthday cake from the worktop, lunged for the kids dinner at the table (we all sit a bit closer now!), jumped up and taken a cupcake from someone and scoffed it wrapper and all, eaten the dining table leg, the plaster from the dining room wall, numerous slippers, socks, shoes, cardboard boxes, paper, cushions, spectacles, swimming goggles, sandpaper, Lego is a particular favourite, a cheque for £456 and lots more. We have a lock on the fridge as one can open the door, when looking for a new washer we didn't concern ourselves with spin speeds, wash programmes etc but whether or not she would be able to get her nose in to open the door! They work as a tag team, one creating a diversion whilst another does the deed then sharing or fighting over the proceeds... but the one that makes me chuckle the most is when my son came round with his new girlfriend for tea, he wanted a drink and said watch my tea for me and slid her the plate while he left the table - the look of confusion on her face was priceless.
You haven't lived til you've chased a Basset Hound round the garden after the sausages she's just stolen.
  • I once had a particularly naughty dog, who over the course of his 15 years ate a whole stilton from the Xmas table, a 250g block of butter, the entire Xmas chocolate collection 3 days before Xmas (which made him sick), a glass of Whiskey (also made him sick), a brand new pair of trainers, (never been worn) and the lodgers leather jacket! He even learnt how to open the door to the grill and steal chops that were grilling.
  • One of our German Shepherds used to help herself to dog food, she worked out how to open the ring pull and get the lid off. The most she ever had was 3 in one go. She could open doors as well so we had to put child locks on all the kitchen cupboards.

This isn't naughty (well not really), this is blooming genius!!

  • I am normally a reader of the forums rather than a poster, but I could not resist this time.

I am the proud owner of an 8 and a half month old German Shepherd puppy. To date she has:

    1) Destroyed a coat stand (pulling it over and snapping it)
    2) Destroyed the carpet from my bottom step (after escaping her crate whilst we were out)
    3) Destroyed the same piece of carpet as above one week after it had been replaced with an offcut. We are now out of offcuts and it will cost around £70 to get this replaced.
    4) On the same date as item 3, she also ripped apart one of the cushions off our sofa (thankfully I have never liked that sofa so it will be motivation to get a new one) and ripped apart and ate an entire box of bran flakes (poops were a bit funny after this one).
    5) Destroyed countless toys
    6) Scratched a 4 inch square hole into the plasterboard near her bed and chewed all the skirting boards in the surrounding area
    7) Dug more holes than I care to count into our rear lawn
    8) Chewed off part of the plastic valve on the kitchen radiator
    9) Dug up almost all of the bulbs I spent over two hours planting back in May
    10) Stolen a cooked chicken from the worktop when I looked away for literally a second!

Thankfully we have consulted a dog behaviour specialist and with his help we have rectified the majority of her issues. She is our first dog and these last 6 months have been a bit of a baptism of fire!
  • My two labradors no longer chew things - thankfully, but as puppies they ate a sofa and two arm chairs (plus the garden furniture we used as a temporary replacement), a door frame,a huge chunk of skirting board and made a massive hole in the plaster. They have eaten numerous blocks of cheese but thankfully only ever managed to get their paws on one bar of chocolate.

It was lovely when they finally settled down and in retrospect I can have a good laugh about it. Being a glutton for punishment though I have another labrador puppy, and another sofa has been demolished. All will be peaceful again in a couple of months when the puppy grows up.

I think the thing about the sofas and chairs is that the cushions have the family's scent on them. In the mornings I would find the cushions on the floor and the dogs rolling around on them. Proves they love us I guess.

    Ours sound like angels!

We had one who liked going into the bathroom and if you left clothes there, he'd chew them.

We have one who likes pinching socks too.

  • Our black lab now six has a very long list of shoes, slippers, handbags and boots to account for and a stolen food list as long as your arm. One of his favourites was avocado -I stopped leaving them to ripen in the fruit bowl after coming home so may times to find the skin and stone left licked clean. New wooden doors, seatbelts X 2, shower mat in the holiday home we rented, fridge magnets. memory sticks. Once I took a parcel in for a neighbour and didn't know it was chocolate (fortunately he only nibbled a corner, we had it replaced it for the neighbour and ate the rest). He took a bag of flour once that tracked through the house and ended up as a glue slurry in his bed. My daughter called him a certain celebrity's name because of the white powder on his nose- we used different words entirely.

Our black lab Cooper is just over two now and as you can see from the pic decided at a very young age that soft things (beds/toys etc) are for chewing!

One of his finest moments was when my mum got him a stuffed squeaky monkey - he destroyed it in less than five minutes, the next day I took him to my bosses house where he proceeded to have a poo in the hallway, the poo mainly consisted of monkey stuffing and I was stood there with a heap of kitchen roll trying to 'pull' it all out of his bum!

  • My dog Maxie wagged an entire tray of champagne glasses off the coffee table - naturally they were full! The tray was carried in and set down on the coffee table while someone else brought the birthday cake in - Maxie decided she liked all this activity and ran up to the table and started to wag her tail vigorously, neatly scything the lot off the table to break on the floor before we could react. She then stood there grinning - I swear it was a grin - while we ran around hoovering up glass and bemoaning the loss of our only bottle of champagne.

Oh well, the cake tasted delicious and we had a good laugh! Never done that again, she's never had the chance as the drinks tray is now offered round immediately, and not set down.
  • Yes, tail wagging has destroyed a few cups over the years and a remote control.

But of course I've just remembered the grossest thing my dog has done. When one of my labradors was a very large puppy they went missing. Despite searching the house I couldn't find her. We have a large, separate utility room that we generally keep locked - the only entrance is the small cat flap - yep she'd wiggled through and was hiding in a covered cat litter box enjoying a cat litter buffet. When she was older she tried the same trick, but being larger got herself stuck and I had to break the cat flap to get her out. She's never tried it since I reckon getting stuck was too traumatic.
