Oh, and I do like the microwaved bought in "meals" in Weatherspins. :rotfl:

Even the poached eggs in their Eggs Benedict come part-cooked.

For goodness sake, how pretentious some people people can be!

I have eaten in some very upmarket places and not felt that got what I paid for. I have eaten in Wetherspoon's too, when I want a quick, reasonably priced meal. I have never been disappointed with my food there. Believe me, I have eaten in some places that most people never get to try, over the years, in my more affluent days.

I don't like our local one much as there is a tendency for some locals to hang around due to the cheap drink but I have been to some lovely Wetherspoon's, e.g. the one in Whitstable.

I really think that some people should get a grip and respond to the OP's actual comment which was about the inappropriate treatment of a member of staff. I do think that was out of order but having never seen it happen elsewhere, I would imagine it is down to the individual manager's attitude.

I second your sentiments entirely - what it it about certain people who probably have never eaten in Wetherspoons ! Probably the same people who wont shop in Lidls or Aldis. Still, they are the losers, not us!!

I think the manager behaved pretty badly by giving a staff member a dressing down in full view & hearing of customers.

I'm sure there must be somewhere private.

I was in a charity shop years ago (before they became really popular and were staffed mainly by sweet old dears in twinsets and perms) and an area manager was in and she was giving 2 old ladies a right telling off for something they'd done or not done (I think it might have been to do with display).

Now, I used this shop quite often and the ladies were really nice so I just had to step in.
I told this manager in no uncertain terms that she was out of order by speaking to them in public, that they were volunteers and she should be ashamed of herself.

I also told her that I would never bring my unwanted items in to the shop again and that I would be writing to head office to complain about her attitude (which I did).

No idea if the charity took any notice but it made me feel better - and a different charity got my cast-offs from then on.

I've seen that sort of thing in charity shops before too although not recently, thankfully. You would think that the managers would appreciate the volunteer help and not "lord it" over them. Quite possibly the volunteers are more qualified than the managers and have maybe retired. I know that when I retired from teaching, it was something I thought about doing but, having witnessed a grumpy manager on several occasions, I knew it was not something I would be able to put up with. A shame really as I am sure I would have had something to offer, if not retail skills.

You are so right! I just looked up the word "winner", and here's what I found:

Winner (adj. ): An individual who eats reheated crap in a soulless cavern in the mistaken belief that they're sticking it to the man by pretending they're getting quality for a lesser monetary outlay. May also shop in German supermarkets whilst grudgingly having to get everything else in Tesco. You know, the stuff you just can't get while being a tight fisted compromise - er.
  • Don't feed the toll.

Especially as it might be "cheap crap" bought at Aldi, Lidl or heaven forbid, a franchise pub/restaurant chain. :rotfl:

Oh no! Now I am confused. From time to time I shop in Aldi and Lidl but don't go to Wetherspoons.

I must be having an identity crisis.
