We decided to have a few days break and went to Ilfracombe on Saturday 6 September. After touring the town we noticed that JD Wetherspoons had opened up a new pub and as a fan of theres we thought we would try it.
We found a really comfy position inside the pub and sat down to enjoy an excellent meal. However what we did not appreciate was and still very annoyed was a manager (I assume) sat down with a member of staff at a table near us and started pointing out his short comings regarding cleaning an overhead canopy above the fryers in their kitchen.
We felt really sorry for the employee for the obvious embarrassment it must have caused and for the customer to witness the proceedings.
Surely they must have private areas for this type of thing.
Also I thought the manager conducted herself in a very unprofessional manner.

For goodness sake, how pretentious some people people can be!
I have eaten in some very upmarket places and not felt that got what I paid for. I have eaten in Wetherspoon's too, when I want a quick, reasonably priced meal. I have never been disappointed with my food there. Believe me, I have eaten in some places that most people never get to try, over the years, in my more affluent days.
I don't like our local one much as there is a tendency for some locals to hang around due to the cheap drink but I have been to some lovely Wetherspoon's, e.g. the one in Whitstable.
I really think that some people should get a grip and respond to the OP's actual comment which was about the inappropriate treatment of a member of staff. I do think that was out of order but having never seen it happen elsewhere, I would imagine it is down to the individual manager's attitude.0 -
What do you really want them to do about it?
They may not have had a private area. The staffroom may have been occupied with other colleagues, which it would be more embarrassing for the employee in question to be spoken to in. Maybe he asked for it to be on the 'shop floor' away from other colleagues.
You didn't have to listen. If you were chatting amongst yourselves you would not have been privvy to the conversation unless they were shouting so loud it was impossible to hear.0 -
I would have sent my food back, and when they asked for a reason I would say that I had concerns over the cleanliness of the canopy above the fryer.0

Oh, absolutely. I used to wear Armani, Versace, Dior, you name it. Now, I just can't see past Primark, In fact, if anyone told me that Primark wasn't as good, they'd be liers. LIERS I TELLS YA!
Oh, and I do like the microwaved bought in "meals" in Weatherspins. :rotfl:0 -
