Eh? It's cost you £2442 but over 4.5K? You what?

Anyhoo, to be frank you must be insane paying £400+ a month for insurance. That's complete idiocy in my book, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

How long did the drive take you in the end?

Oh, and isn't that number plate a little small? You're going to be a magnet for coppers anyway as a young lad driving an R32, so don't make it worse with illegally spaced/sized plates which will draw even more attention. Just a tip.

I guess it can be all relative, £6.69/day to be insured and legal, I remember when I started driving the insurance was often more than the car.

Hey your mistaken! It has cost me £2442 for the year's insurance, however the insurance company charges a fee of 23%+ if you were to pay it montly, which worked out be 400+ deposit, then 400+ per month after, taking the total cost for the year to over £4500+ for the year.

What I did, is pay the £430 deposit, then today, I cleared off the remainding balance of £2000 meaning I have nothing else to pay as it's all be paid off in full. The insurance company worked it out, if i was to pay after the 14 days and say if I was to pay it off fully at the end of this month, I would of paid roughly £200 in interest bringing the settlement figure to £2200, hope that clears things up. Never would i pay that kind of money per month, MADESS! :P

It's a private place on and it's correctly spaced, it's a 5 letter private plate, which is coming off soon as it's the previous owners, standard plate will go on.
  • I wish I could afford to pay that for insurance, ha ha!

The characters don't look tall enough to be legal, but now you've completed the big trip, that's semi-irrelevant.

Not quite - either you've just driven a car with the wrong registration displayed, or it's now your plate which the previous owner is being remarkably trusting about you transferring back to him once you get it on a retention in your name.

I Concur with Adrian - that doesn't look like a legal font/spacing, and the plate thing is interesting. Have they applied to change the plate over already, or are they waiting for you to transfer it over to them?

Arrived in aberdeen for half 15 minutes earlier and 8:15, waitied half hour for the owner to pick me up, straight to the bank to sort it payment, was in there for half hour trying to sort it out!

Next hour was spent going through the car's history, paperwork receipts and so on.

You paid for the AND THEN looked at the paperwork?

Also, 300 miles in one sitting is pretty impressive, that's about 5 hours if you averaged 60 (half at 50, half at 70). I've never managed much more than 3 at a time.

The thought of paying £400/month for insurance terrifies me. Even when I started driving at 20 it was £250. But you've got a car that you're happy with, so it's all good as long as you ensure everything is above board.
  • Glad you got it to your place all good! - Cheers for the update.

Just to say we are not bashing you OP, comments about the plates etc are trying to keep you on the right side of the plod!

Glad you made it OK, although I'm still dying to know how long it took in total...

And I agree with Herzlos, 300 miles without a stop is a looooong way, I rarely manage as much as 200 without needing a break.

Looks like a nice motor from the brief glimpse you've given us.

Job done - but we need more pics.

Don't worry about the nit-pickers saying the insurance is high - that's just life if you're a young guy with a smart, powerful car.

I was running a rally-spec Ford Mexico at 21 and the insurance made me cry.

But ...... Idon't regret it one little bit.

    Enjoy your car.
  • Hahaa cheers guys, I'll confirm once again, I've just paid £2442 for the year, not £440 every month.

I appreciate the comments about the legal side in regards to plates, I asked a traffic cop about them and he said it's ok. The private plate is in process of coming off, owner gave me green slip, he still has the logbook so everything will be sorted within the next 2 weeks.

I wanted to keep this for many years to come but financially, it doesn't make sense, I will keep it for a year, until my renewal comes and part with it, whilst I can still recoup everything I've paid for it, plus more as I've got a private plate and other mod parts that can be sold with the car.

Main priority is a house, so will clear loan off next year!

Thanks for ignoring one of the key bits of advice this thread gave you.

You wilfully endangered the safety of other road users with such stupidity.
