Neighbours cat fouling our garden

When we first moved my cats killed a couple of rats and since then we've had the odd rat killed. Once rats realised cats are around they tend to avoid that area. They ( my cats) also kill mice as well as other rodents. Others in the neighbourhood have rat problems so much so they have had to call in an exterminator.
We have an indoor litter tray and places in the garden they are allowed to go. If we want to protect any specific area ie for newly planted seeds we cover it with chicken wire. We also back onto a field which is where they often roam.
The hardest part of keeping the cats in my garden is the neighbours. I don't know which part of 'don't encourage them in' they don't understand. I even had one encourage them into the house then wonder why they were often hunting in their garden.0 -

I don't have a problem with cat poo in my garden.
Thats because my dog is a rescued ex working lurcher which is definately NOT cat friendly.
However I do have steaming piles of dog plop to pick up instead.
Any cats entering my garden do so at their own risk !Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

I really don't think that we should be holding up those great guys n gals in the good old US of A as yardsticks of sense in a great many things, least of all in matters regarding animal welfare"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

It should not be forced on others to get a cat to stop yours fouling their garden.
Gosh! You seem to have a few issues with cats...
I own two; I have a cat flap but most of the time my cats spend inside...their choice, they are not forced to. They have clean litter trays but when the weather gets better they go out. I cannot control them when they are outside, I don't spend my life chasing after them...they go where they please.
I live on an estate, so lots of cat owners around and lots of cats roaming, so no doubt cats do their business in my garden but as I'm at work all day, I don't see it and I don't see where my cats go either....doesn't make me irresponsible.
I have more of a problem with irresponsible dog owners letting their dogs poo in my garden and not clearing up after...at least cats generally bury their poo.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Living in Asia for some 15-years I never once came across fouled pavements, fouled open spaces. No dog mess no cat mess anywhere. I wonder why that is? Perhaps it is that they may well have dogs and cats but only in recent times have they been treated as "pets". And now as they keep cats and dogs as "pets", they are always small enough to carry. And few dogs if any are ever walked on a lead. Where cats are carried outside it's often in a cat cage of some sort. It's all about "responsibility" and our differences as to when it is appropriate to have a cat / dog as a pet and when it is not. You may well have a dog / cat in the house as a "pet" but you never ever for example take the dog off your property out for a walk on a lead to foul and urinate anywhere as it pleases. You never ever see cats going into others open spaces and dropping their mess there. It just doesn't happen You'd be shunned by everyone if you allowed that to happen. It's the difference between a responsiblr society across the board and a responsible society where some choose not to be.
You probably didn't see cat or dog mess in Asia because the locals had eaten all the dogs and cats.0 -
In some states in America, it is illegal to have a cat outside of your own garden. The same rules for dogs applies to cats. Collect the cat poo and chuck it against the owner's windows - just don't get caught doing it. Doesn't solve the problem but maybe when the owners are having to clean their own cat's poo for a change, maybe they'll learn some respect
Who gives a STUFF about what they do in America?! We're not IN America are we?
If we wanna go down that road, let's all start walking around with guns in our handbags, let's start circumcising our baby boys at birth (whether we are Jewish or not!) let's start driving on the right hand side of the road, let's start using dollars, and let's start seeing a therapist when we can't figure out what shoes to wear.
This constant 'but Americans do this and that' chestnut is boring and pointless. We are not IN America, I don't CARE what they do there, and no WAY are my cats being kept indoors for their whole life... I genuinely think it's cruel. It's tantamount to keeping someone in prison!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

It's better for the male's health , if they're circumcised so not sure what your point is there (and Muslims circumcise too) You need to look up about STDS, cancer and HIV and circumcision. But you seem to have gone off topic.
And looking on the bright side, if we all have guns, we can shoot the cats0 -

I'm sure we have some American guests on this forum, so, please, folks, keep it nice.
Opinions obviously differ on cat poop, I don't object to it that much (although of course I don't like it) but I HATE neighbours' dogs leaving giant turds. It's what cats do but a dog should be kept from other people's property. We live in the country I must add.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0
