Went along to the Shangri La for drinks the other day. Service was unbefitting a 5* hotel. Tables were dirty when we sat down. Even a filled ashtray on the table. They were asking for order before they even cleaned the table. I had to request that they cleaned the table.
Went along to Vertigo at the Banyan Tree instead. Went to Sirocco at Lebua, but they didn't open until 6pm.0 -
The Shangri La was good in it's day but I thought it was looking a bit scruffy nowadaystravelover0

Spend a couple of hours in the Khao San area of BKK. Get there on the ferry, get off at Pier 13, and follow the flow.
Fly to Phuket a week on Friday [13th], for a month on the Andaman Coast.0 -
We were originally going to go to Phuket, but changed to Koh Lanta, Krabi. Reading reviews Koh Lanta is hopefully as deserted as we want it to be.0

As soon as we arrive at Phuket Airport we're heading north to Khao Lak for our first week.
Then bus further north to Ranong for a few days, and have a peek across to the southern tip of Burma.
Back south for a couple of nights in Khao Sok National Park, and finishing off on Nai Yang beach close to Phuket Airport.
Total budget for 2 of us is...
- Flights. £733 [Thomson Dreamliner].
- 4 weeks comfortable accommodation. £600 max.
- Food, spending money. £1,200 max.0 -

£1200 food MAX:eek:?? I'm travelling with 2 growing boys, so food budget is huge!
Anything to do with Thomson I shudder, based on a previous bad experience!
£600 for accommodation, I'm curious to know where you will be staying?0 -

We've all had a bad travel experience. BA and Etihad have been my worst. Never had a problem with Thomson, especially on their cruises (x4). Thomson Dreamliner gets excellent reviews on the TA Air Travel Forum.£600 for accommodation, I'm curious to know where you will be staying?
Have a look on Booking.com or Agoda for Khao Lak, Ranong, Khao Sok National Park, and Nai Yang. There are loads of comfortable places that run out at less than £150 for 7 nights. I've booked our first and final accommodation at...

Both were recommended by people I trust. I've got our Ranong, and Khao Sok accommodation up my sleeve, so we've got plenty of flexibility with our itinerary.0 -
I don't want to appear rude but if I can add one thing it would be to reconsider visiting/trekking with the elephants. I did it many years ago when I was young and naive and was appalled. These poor creatures are subjected to vile training methods. The more aware we are the better chance of animal tourism ending. I tried to post a link but if you google 'elephant training Thailand' you'll get the picture.
Besides that, have a blast.0
