I disable flash on my PC (flashblock on Firefox), because it's mostly the annoying ads which get in the way of pages.

Oh my GOD... DO NOT DO THIS!!!

The touchscreen controls for cars are AWFUL! It's been shown time and again that it's best to use a steering wheel and pedals when controlling cars, and anyone who thinks that moving to a touchscreen is a good idea is CRAZY! You will be swiping the screen trying to park and you'll be taking out grannies left, right and centre! You'll try to swipe a gear change and end up in reverse while doing 60 on the motorway! You'll get an incoming call that fills the screen and not be able to avoid splattering Mister Fluffykins (Watford's most famous squirrel) all over the asphalt!

Please, PLEASE ask your wife to use the steering wheel and pedals to control the car! I know touchscreens are "cool" nowadays, but it's just not worth it. Think of the children!!!

    A) No children
    B) No touchscreen
    C) Its an automatic gear box
    D) Its voice controlled

Car picks up address book from wired iOS devices, you press the button on the steering wheel and say "navigate to <name of contact>" and it does the rest.

Generally even with voice commands I dont generally try and set where I am navigating to whilst trying to park

Still notice you are avoiding the actual topic though :A
  • Little things will annoy you with apple products like the charger, if it breaks (which is will) you have to buy an expensive replacement.

    How is £1.25 expensive?

Been using my 3rd party charger cables for years and never had any problems with them at all. Of maybe I could get a micro USB for £0.75 but a price difference of 50p on something I buy once every few years isnt expensive to me.
  • Horses for courses - we've got android/apple/windows/mobile windows devices in our house. I like android, my wife likes apple. My employer likes windows phones. My son has a nexus 7, we have a 'family' ipad2 that is still rocking strong after 3 years.

My only major bugbear about iphones (and it probably applies to many devices) is the lack of an easily replaceable battery. My wife would probably keep using her iphone4 if it wasn't for the dead battery inside it. My Galaxy S3 is perky now I've bought a brand new Anker battery and put on cyangenmod

I find the lack of widgets on iOS devices really sad. They'd be much nicer if their OS supported them.
  • B) No touchscreen
Hmmm. That's a bit of a drawback for iOS devices. In that case, I'd suggest an Android tablet for the OP, as they all have touchscreens.

Nook HD+ is the MSE favourite, I think.
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Talking about a car interface not phone
  • No no no, the OP shouldn't be using an iPad Air as a car interface! The steering wheel and pedals work much better! Didn't we already cover that?

You can replace the battery in an iPhone 4 quite easily, or take it to one of the small 3rd party phone repair shops/stalls. Opening the phone only requires two screws to be undone and then the back cover slides off. Also with an iPhone 4 you can take it to an Apple store and give them £120(?) and they'll swap it for a brand new one.

The iPhone battery is certainly better than on Samsung Android phones, where if you completely run it down then it sometimes won't charge again (you have to take it out of the phone for a while and then put it back in and it will charge).

No we didnt, we were covering how Android is so amazing it can work with absolutely everything, even things never designed to work with any electronic device let alone those designed only to work with iOS
  • The Apple staff are no help what so ever. My partner bought a brand new iPhone, every time the battery got to 30% it turned off. So we passed an Apple store and asked them to fix it, they all said including the manager and the head genius that sorry that's just what happens we can't do anything about it.

And just gave us a list of things to turn off such as vibration, dim the screen brightness etc. To extend the time it took to get to 30% battery life and then turn off.

In my experience the help is terrible.another example of the bad service, is I was given MacBook which had no end of problems Apple staff were useless and one occasion I asked for Windows office for Mac and the genius told me it doesn't exist (which it does) .

I think they can help with very basic problems like how do I take a photo but anything else they are useless.

Since getting rid of every Apple product we stick to opensourse every thing because it all just works ( and its cheap)

then you were the exception rather than the rule.....try getting support out of dell or some other cheap brand pc from pc world....please........opensource is fine and has its place but as a desktop OS linux doesnt cut it.
