So why not just pick something that can work with everything?

Dont tend to go to sites with videos embedded in them, those that do its normally YouTube thats hosting the video and that is fully iPhone/iPad compatible.

Because nothing works with everything. For example, my car has a media interface which has a 30 pin iPhone/iPad/iPod connector plus a USB port. Connect any iOS device to it and you get everything you'd expect in terms of music and video sortable by artist, album, song, genre, playlists etc. It can pick up my address book for both GPS navigation and for voice dialing (assuming iPhone)

Plug in any other brand of device via the USB and you simply get a list of files in the filestructure in which they are stored. No access to address books or any of the other features.

So given your claim that Android is compatible with EVERYTHING please advise how I get my wife's old samsung phone to use a wired connection with the car to allow full integration?

2) why have you got an iphone and she has a samsung....sounds like a rocky marriage

3)why dont you use androids voice activation from the phone?!

Why limit yourself for the sake of the brand...just go with something that everybody else uses and works with everything?

Both Android and iOS have their pros and cons, but to comment on your continued "flash" point.

Adobe ceased support for Flash for Android back in 2012 (starting with 4.1), this is why the newer android versions 4.4 for example do not come with flash installed and there is no flash player in the Google Play Store. Yes you can install a prior "old" version, but this isn't guaranteed to work as the Android codebase changes.

The push is for HTML5 which is supported on all devices.

It's all about the build quality, Eco system and back-up. Though a premium price, an ipad does deliver.

Annoying about removable storage though. You can get around 'flash' (mostly) by using 'Puffin' or 'Photon' browsers.

I wasnt getting into a debate on which is better, I am defending the statement that nothing works with everything and so it comes down to which compromises are the least for you.

You seem to not want to admit that Andriod too out of the box wont work with everything just as iOS wont. Both can be expanded through apps etc but still neither will do absolutely everything because all providers create propriety technologies etc.

As said, my iPad can run Flash by using a different browser app but I almost never use it as the sites I go to happen not to use Flash, its not an active decision to avoid them its just how it is. Our old android phone however cannot integrate properly wired with our car no matter what app you put on it.

PS, thanks for the concern for my wife but she does have more than one phone

another android/windows loser.....why dont you just try the alternative for six months, I guarantee you would never go back...

android = fragmented crap OS
windows = joke OS (the only reason microsoft ever succeeded in the desktop area was due to their superior marketing, their products are junk.

have used windows for years and converted about 5 years ago, apple products are worth their premium....but hey stick with your virus ridden, driver shoddy crap environment, who cares...

Flash = so last year, html5 is the future.

To the OP if you want a product that just works and has the best customer support in the world get the iPad, you won't regret it.
