Me neither so interesting and worth a try. What card do you have now as my old debit card is still good until Oct '16....!

The replacement non-contactless card is exactly the same as the contactless version they originally sent. It just doesn't have the contactless indication on the front.
I can't remember if the previous LloydsTSB card was just replaced because of the "brand" change or it expired.:o Probably the former.
The new card expiry is end of March '17.

KFC, Subway and Tesco also accept contactless.

also Lidl and Aldi do in some stores (although only for debit cards)

I've used it in quite a few other places too
I regularly use my contactless credit card in Aldi and Lidl ....................... runs and hides :rotfl:

Am I the only one who thinks contactless is more secure? The fewer times you're entering your PIN with someone possibly either sneaking a look or having set up a camera, the better.

Considering that contactless only allows transactions up to £20, I'd much rather someone have to take endless transactions of £20 than just take it all in one go.

I can appreciate that people get worried though, but frankly I don't see them as less secure than existing cards. No security is perfect, there will be ways to get around it, but sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice security for convenience. If we didn't, we wouldn't even have cards in the first place.

As for the OP, though, if you are worried then either use a blocking wallet/purse or ask Lloyds for a non-contactless one and they will probably oblige. I wouldn't hold out hope on never having one though. There will be a point that every card becomes contactless.

Take your points but of course each case can be different, particularly the loss of even just £20 if you're on a tight monthly budget as I am, worst of all if you're on the basic state pension of about £143 odd a week. Just not an option.
There will be a point that every card becomes contactless.
Quite honestly I'm now starting to wonder looking at the overall past expensive security history and the future of cards generally, whether it's going eventually reach a point one day where the original old methods of paying cash for everything, together with some sort of fully modernised version of writing a cheque to replace cards might by comparison work out one day to be more cost and PR effective to the banks and customers all round ?

    Just some current thoughts.... :)

  • Hi biblio1,

Your old card will only remain active for 30 days or until your replacement card is used.

If you'd rather have a non-contactless card, please give us a call on either 01733 347 007 or 0845 3000 000 (open 24 hours a day). One of my colleagues will then arrange for a non-contactless card to be sent to you.

    Hope this helps,

    Craig

    Hi Craig

Yes wonderful thank you will do.... ! :j :)

I think the people worrying about contactless need to find something else in their life to worry about.

Do you not fly because there is a small chance your plane could crash?
Do you not drive because there is small chance someone could crash into you?
Do you not eat out because there is a small chance you could get food poisoning?

The chance of fraud from owning a contactless card is minimal. If fraud occurs, you're covered by your bank.

Now, what can you complain about next?

If you're desperate for a non contactless c/c the my first direct one is distinctly non contactless. It seems the HSBC group don't offer a contactless option on their credit cards .. yet anyway.

Our first direct debit cards are contactless...have been for best part of a year. Quite fancied trying it out.

Had a fun conversation with a rep.

Me: "I'd like a contactless card, please".
Them: "Err, we can't really send you another card unless your existing one has been lost or stolen".

Me: "I'd just like a new card...it looks fun"
Them: "Are you telling me that your card is lost or stolen?"

Me: "No, like I said...I really just want a new one".
Them: "I mean...Are you telling me that your card is lost or stolen?"

Me: "Oh...yeah...totally, lost, stolen...not sure...just certainly need a new one".
Them: "OK, we'll get a new card out to you right away!"

As I mentioned I have had mine for months and never noticed anywhere that would have given me the opportunity to use it.

I think Tesco have the facility and I know McDonalds have the option, thats all I have seen so far. Pretty pointless if not many businesses have the facility to accept contactless payments.

Just to add maybe I just havent noticed that the option is available in other retailers.

Yeah, normally if I notice it I only do so after I've paid (ironically as I'm waiting for the transaction to go through and have nothing better to do than stand and stare at the machine).

I use mine in MaccyDs and Waitrose (I may be the only person in the world to shop at both ;)) but that's about it.

You can use contactless cards on London buses. Pretty handy for visitors who don't now have to get an Oyster card with £5 depost.
Very shortly they can be used on the tube and the daily caps etc still appy.

B-b-but I thought it emptied your account as soon as you stood within 50 metres of the device.
