Yeh, HSBC have began to introduce them as well, you're next replacement card is guaranteed to be contactless.

I've had contactless credit and debit cards for years, never had any issues at all. It's all a myth. If you have more than one in the same wallet, they cancel eachother out so no one can read them... Or if you're really paranoid, wrap the card in tinfoil :-)

Thanks, but my point really and why I don't see the need for contactless in the first place....? Million dollar question is can one still carry on using the old debit card regardless or.... ?

I can't speak for your Lloyds card, but I know with HSBC any replacement card that is sent out for a reason other than fraud or compromised details will leave the old card valid for another 30 days, despite the expiry date. I imagine other banks will have a similar system.

    Where do people use them?

As I mentioned I have had mine for months and never noticed anywhere that would have given me the opportunity to use it.
  • Just drill a hole through the "contactless" bit. Look on YouTube for more details.

I've used these for years overseas before they were introduced here. I like them because:

    1) I don't have to enter my PIN for small transactions - reduced risk.
    2) As it's so quick, I often use it in situations where otherwise I'd use cash. This means carrying less cash (=risk) and opening my wallet less (I keep my card separate).

So whatever the risks of contactless, I think the overall risks are lower. However I do think people should be offered a choice and/or it should be possible to disable the feature.

Am I the only one who thinks contactless is more secure? The fewer times you're entering your PIN with someone possibly either sneaking a look or having set up a camera, the better.

Considering that contactless only allows transactions up to £20, I'd much rather someone have to take endless transactions of £20 than just take it all in one go.

I can appreciate that people get worried though, but frankly I don't see them as less secure than existing cards. No security is perfect, there will be ways to get around it, but sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice security for convenience. If we didn't, we wouldn't even have cards in the first place.

As for the OP, though, if you are worried then either use a blocking wallet/purse or ask Lloyds for a non-contactless one and they will probably oblige. I wouldn't hold out hope on never having one though. There will be a point that every card becomes contactless.

From the blurb I've received places like McDonald's, Cafe Nero and I believe Starbucks take it; I've used it in Boots and Marks and Spencers Simply Food personally.

KFC, Subway and Tesco also accept contactless.

also Lidl and Aldi do in some stores (although only for debit cards)

I've used it in quite a few other places too

Must look out for it in my local Tesco to see if they have it.

Don't visit any of the other places listed so far so that will explain my lack of encountering the system.

    Hi biblio1,

Your old card will only remain active for 30 days or until your replacement card is used.

If you'd rather have a non-contactless card, please give us a call on either 01733 347 007 or 0845 3000 000 (open 24 hours a day). One of my colleagues will then arrange for a non-contactless card to be sent to you.

    Hope this helps,
