Can't hope for anything better than that under the circumstances can we? My work team do lots of charity fundraising each year (to the point of being too much and annoying). They have started this week with a 'guess the number of sweets' competition and we are all having to take a turn in the canteen doing this. As well as the number they are offering a guess the weight competition too (winner gets a bottle of 'champagne').
Now as much as I'm happy to raise money for charity they are asking £2 a guess for each of these which I think is a horrific price. Personally I'd have said 50p a guess or £1 max. If people want to spend £2 they'd take a few guesses for it.
Am I allowing my time at MSE to make me grippy or do you think it's justified to grudge such a high cost?
The other thing I object to with the charity stuff is when they basically force you to join in. Been told there is a Halloween day event, you can either pay £2 to come in fancy dress or (in their words) if you're boring and don't dress up you're fined £5... I'm actually thinking of taking the day off to avoid it!

Second one - I object strongly to this sort of thing; thank the gods they didn't do "jeans for genes" when I was working, because I didn't possess any jeans. (Still don't!).
A while back Mr LW's work had a weird thing where they were all required to wear something red - we had a mad scrat around to find something - he doesn't have any red clothes that are suitable to wear to the office, and eventually he had to resort to a red tie, although the dress code at his place is "smart casual" and ties are not normally worn.
What are you meant to do if you don't have a suitable "costume"? - spend a fortune buying something to wear??
And don't get me started on "compulsory parties" - we had a compulsory Xmas do every year when I was at the Valuation Office - I used to arrange to be out on inspections on that day, or if I couldn't do that, I'd take annual leave.
The other thing is I prefer to select for myself what causes I give to, not be forced to donate what is, let's face it, a lot if you're on a tight budget, to something that's not close to my heart. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Afternoon all
Ttftm- hugs to you and DH
Lj- £2 is ridiculous! And as for fining people a £5....well I would tell them where to go!
Busy morning as it is ds1 birthday tomorrow so I took him to choose a new mobile phone and ds2 came along as he needs clothes. My boys are a good 6inches bigger than me and walk either side of me - it feels like they're my bouncers! I'm very proud to be seen with them tho as they're both such sweeties and handsome!
Dd back at school today so ran her to the station at 7am, not usually a problem but DH snoring woke me up at 3am and it took me hours to nod off again! Grrrr....
Possibly pasta for dinner tonight, I shall investigate freezer.
Have a lovely day all, hugs to all in need xx0 -

:eek::rotfl:
my head is currently running through all the non ok for work things MrLW might own in red hahaha
I have also today said no to the department Christmas do. £40+ for a 'party to a party' event then the cost of all your drinks on top of that, return bus fare and potential £25+ taxi home if I don't want to leave at the time of the night bus.
I'd rather use the money for a night out with my friends or towards Christmas presents at that time of year.
So I guess I'm the office leper now

Well done for standing your ground, LJ.:) It's a lot of money to socialise with a bunch of people who the only thing you have in common with is working at the same place.
As for Mr LW's non-suitable red clothes - apart from the tie, the only other red attire he has are three t-shirts, all of which advertise a rather high ABV beer; (Wychw00d Goliath) - definitely would be frowned upon, as his place does a lot of contractual work for the NHS. Even on dress-down days, he never wears beer t-shirts.;)
I did offer to knit him a red willy-warmer, but he never took me up on the offer.:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Am glad I'm not the only one that avoids work Christmas parties.
Can't stop laughing at the thought of Mr LW going to work in his brewery t-shirt and a handknitted willy warmer :rotfl:LBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Red wooly willy warmer hahaha The look on his colleagues faces when they ask what red item he's wearing..... brilliant!
Until this week I did Ann Summers parties and have one of their witches outfits, I may have to pay my £2 and turn up wearing that! They'll definitely not do a Christmas one just in case! The outfit does cover the important bits but shows a lot of leg and cleavage. It's been a billion years since I posted a pic on here that I'm not sure I'd know where to start or I'd give you all a flash

TTFM, it's all money driven I believe, our librarian left in the summer & the decision is 'We'll wait until we see what sort of person we need' in other words she's not being replaced! I hope you & hubby manage to get out as it is a hideous situation, I find it heartbreaking to see so many staff being bullied & demoralised.
LW, lol at the red willy warmer.
LJ, I fell out big time with a colleague who was constantly hassling for charity cash, I wasn't the only one not happy with it, but I was the only one with the balls to stand up to her, my name was mud for a long time.

I'm old grouch or Grinch - don't do office anything apart from work! Hate work parties, hate dress-down/up days and will most certainly decide when and where I spend my money. Mind you I find it difficult to go to work meetings at the best of times, can't bear the inane 'consultations' when the route has already been decided. And (on a roll now) do not take part in any office team-building shenanigans, absolutely am not making paper chains or things to balance eggs on.
Just heard my brain swearing.
Mmm - that was a long moan for me. Usually I 'swallow' negatives and end up being like Pollyanna so I annoy myself rather than others.
Grumpy now. :rotfl::rotfl:
As for curtains....there is nothing out 'there' apart from fields and trees, the sea, a corner of Jura and deer. I definitely need curtains at the bathroom window at it faces the front and the rest is just for warmth really. Windows are double-glazed at the front, perhaps I'm over-thinking it all.
Taking my grumpy head away to have a cup of tea and stop my head from hurtiing. Rotten day at work but I have to leave it behind.

Just got back from the hospital with DH and sitting down on here for a while.
Making baked fish with green beans for tea and having a quiet day tomorrow before going back to Leeds for another hospital appointment.
New juicer seems to be much more efficient than the old one and getting as much fruit and veg into DH as I can.
DDs have been hoovering and tidying for me while we were out which is really sweet of them.
I agree with you about charity collections being forced on people . Fair enough if it is a genuinely small amount and no one feels pressured I suppose.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"
