O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 3rd September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning All

Not managed to post for a couple of days - builders back to do DDs room, etc. All her furniture is spread around the house and along with the furniture and other bits and pieces I am gathering for DS2, I am slowly disappearing under a mountain of mess!!
Anyway, washing fairly up to date as the weather has been quite good, the curtains from DDs room are being washed (one per load) and should dry today. Also trying to wash the covers off the 2 settees - I will never buy white ones again!! It didn't help that the chimney had to be swept so there was a black film of soot everywhere. Still, we don't have an open fire here so that shouldn't happen again.

Work has been unbelievably busy especially with all the heating works going on and classes being moved all over the place. Seems I can't get away from builders at the moment.

Congratulations Islandmaid - you looked fantastic, so happy and relaxed.
TTFTM - Your poor OH, words fail me.

Hugs to those not feeling so good, Molly how are you getting on?
LW - hope Mr LW's mouth is ok.

Up about 5am as I thought there was a car alarm going off. After the 3rd round of beeping I got up to have a look and realised it was our smoke alarm in DDs room, the builder's dust must have set it off Anyway I brought it downstairs to have a look and have taken the battery out. Hope it didn't wake the neighbours - I will have to sneak out to work today!

DW man coming between 7.30 and 10.30 - there goes DDs lie in then!!

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone!

Can't believe how warm it is... taken off my cardie already and got the air con on in the office.

Not too much to report apart from changing my working time to four days a week from now on, gently easing my way out of work and heading for the next phase of my life. Feels good.

Need to measure the windows for curtains, I really don't like them and in the previous house we didn't have/need any at all. Now we're in the country with no street lights and nets are not enough for winter. I have no idea about anything to do with curtain measuring so the plan is to take photos of all the windows and measure everything, write it on the photos and give them to a curtain maker to figure it out.

Picking up my new laptop today too - need to get rid of the steam driven Vista desktop which is most reluctant to do anything at a speed faster than snail pace. Could waste hours just watching it loading. Bit the bullet yesterday. That'll give OH something to play with when he gets back.

Hope everyone is well or getting better or simply coping with it all.

    Happy Wednesday (GBBO day) :j

:hello: everybody - feel a bit coffee1.gif this morning, think it'll take more than ONE cup to wake me up today.

Had a lovely day with DSis - and her dgs (age 2) - yesterday afternoon. While he was playing, I was trying to introduce her to MSE (especially OS Board). She was showing an interest, so I look forward to seeing her joining/posting on here :j. Her d-i-l arrived to collect her dgs and she was singing Martin's praises too. DSis has actually had a £5,000 refund courtesy of an MSE Template :T, so she does already know about the site - she just wasn't aware of all the forums and Old Style.

I've tried to catch up with the afternoon/evening postings from yesterday, but there were so many of them ................. it's great to see the forum getting back to full strength with folks returning from holidays and kids/grandkids going back to school :j. I wonder how many Mums will be settling down with feet up / cuppa / biccies and a 'very guilty hour of JK' around 9.30 this morning :rotfl:.

Mrs LW - Hope Mr LW's mouth is feeling better this morning - the last thing we need is 'a man with man-pain' ;).
TTFTM - So sorry to hear that you - and your OH - had a carp day at work/lousy journey. ((((Big Hugs)))) to you both.

busiscoming - good luck with the clothes dyeing. Great idea for a wardrobe pick-me-up :T.

dandy-candy - welcome back! Good to see you again!!

Butterfly Brain and IslandMaid - thanks for the links to Wartime Recipes/Blogs - I've bookmarked them both for future ref :D.

    Plans for today include:

Wake up properly ;) - think it's going to take proper coffee today!
Have a shower - that might also help ;).
I've had an email about a job vacancy in the local town centre - I'm going to 'pop-in' to just 'ask' if they've got any vacancies, to see what The Manager says. I've applied online lots of times, but never had so much as a sniff of an interview. Think a polite personal enquiry might just get me through the door, at least :D.
Afternoon shift in the CS later in the day - so that'll keep me out of mischief for a couple of hours ;).
I'm going to 'dig' some Lamb Stew out of the freezer before I go out - we'll have that with mash and savoy cabbage - from fridge drawer - that needs using up. If I prep it all before I go out, it'll be easy to cook when I get back home around 5.30 :j.

HSbearhugblinkie1.gif for all who need one - help yourself in passing ;).

Hope everybody has a good OS day and that we can now all get back into our 'proper routines' again.

Take care all - luv Lilyplonk xxx

    Morning all,

Looks to be another nice day here off to work for me but then I have two days off as I am working at the weekend.

Thanks for the good wishes re dd, Lilyplonk she has known the girl she had moved in with for a year, they are on the same course and have rented this house together, its all good atm but as I said I have slight reservations about her, she is a spoilt madam, and her boyfriend rules over her, but as long as they get on ok it will be fine x

Chicken in some kind of sauce tonight with rice and peas, I shall put the chicken in the sc after this, then it can just have the sauce on when I get in later on.

No tidying to do tonight as I am off tomorrow so will relax with a large glass of wine.

Got a man coming tomorrow to price up the covering of a leather chesterfield type armchair that was my dads, its a beautiful chair but ripped and torn to bits with age, so hope he can give me a good price.

    Have good days all xx

Off to work again in a sec, I wasn't too busy at work y'day as I'd done 6 hours the day before.

I did get into trouble for printing a document with the front page back to front, but when I checked I'd printed it from a PDF, so I was able to pass the blame on to he person who typed it in the first place!

I was very lucky y'day, I was given a Nerf gun, badminton set, cricket set & a storage unit, these are all now shared among the DGC.

I was offered more shirts that I will be getting today & loads of kilner jars. So I went blackberrying again yesterday afternoon & picked another 3lbs.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all :)

First day back to school yesterday and it was a chaotic one. Still managed to get the obligatory photos done though. Laddo was not happy after six weeks off but was soon back into the routine.

Today shopping needs sorting. I'm sat here with a coffee trying to write meal plans and shopping lists whilst everyone has breakfast. My mom came to visit yesterday with bags of tomatoes so I'm going to get the rest of the ingredients to make a relish which someone had kindly posted. We're having mutton and rice for dinner tonight so I just need to check we have enough spices. I also need to make both a loaf of bread and some bread rolls.

Hope everyone has a good day ahead of them :)

  • Good Morning everyone, early start for us on what promises to be a beautiful day weatherwise down here as we've a 9 o clock appointment at the vets with the Dockling. His tumour on his muzzle seems to have grown over the past week or so, it's now the size of a walnut and he's been pulling at it with his foot and made it red and sore. I'm hoping they can give some extra medication to help as an open wound there will be difficult to manage. We'll see what they can offer as otherwise he's still very fit and active for a 10 year old dog.

Nothing much planned for today except dealing with the gluts of produce that are inevitable at this time of year when you're a grower of things and I've far too many courgettes to be able to use up on a day to day basis so It will have to be chutney!!!

Take care of yourselves and have a nice day, Lyn xxx.

    Happy Wednesday everyone
I have been up about an hour. WM on.
Just having my first coffee and watching Little house on the prairie.

We had a fab day out yesterday visiting Mil. She live by the sea.
Lots of chatter and helping with things.
Dog and I had several walks on the beach.
We both had a paddle in the ocean.

I took a HM fruit cake.
We ate it for tea. Some was parceled up for other homes.
    Glad our offerings were helpful.

This morning have the laundry to sort out. Some washing on airers to be folded. WM clothes to hang out as it looks a fine drying day.

    Some computer work to do.

Dinner? I think we might have bacon and eggs etc....

Have a restful mid week day. Get outside a bit for well being.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Good morning everyone.

Lillyplonk I will be one of those mums this morning, but maybe not jk, a bit of cbb instead ( my guilty pleasure). I have a good excuse though, my back has gone into spasm. I think it happen wheni was carrying a heavy basket in one arm. So a couple of pain killers and hot water bottle once the kids get off to school.

Had a very busy day yesterday, beds changed and dusting done. Took the dogs to the forest and walked for 1 hour and 20mins, I was famished when I got home! Went to the hospital in the afternoon to visits dsis. She had a tooth abscess that got very big. She was on my mums ward, so got to see her too. Funny the different versions of stories you get. Dsis told me she nearly died, while mum couldn't understand why she'd been admitted. I still gave the nessecary sympathy because it was still painful what she went through, though maybe not quite as life threatening as she thought.:o

Today I will try and takle the ironing but will see how my back is. It's a beautiful day here, I may sit outside for a while.

Must go and do the school run.

    See you later
