  • I'm thinking of doing a coffee hamper for my neice who has just moved to uni and she seems to be spending alot of her student loan in coffee shops. I'm not a coffee drinker so I'm struggling for ideas. I've looked at the costa coffee thats in the supermarket and i think thats just to use in filter coffee machines, can anyone tell me if thats right and give me some suggestions please

Whittard's do some nice sets with different instant coffees - different flavours like chocolate truffle, Irish cream etc. A set like that put together with a nice big mug or latte glass, some sweet treats, and maybe things like chocolate sprinkles for the top [I saw some in my local Tesco last week - a purple cylinder reduced to 49p each]. Things she can use to dress up her at home coffees. :) I also saw something on HDUK earlier regarding a Costa travel mug for £3 - one of those could be good, or a pretty one in another design [places like Home Bargains and B&M often have them in stock], so she can enjoy her coffee in lectures etc.

Hezza, how does the shrink wrapping work? Have often thought of doing it but the shrink-wrap bags looked quite expensive - do you have any advice?

It's special cellophane wrap that you shrink with a hairdryer. There's a video clip on the Candigifts website that shows you how (skip to about 4.10):-

    http://www.candigifts.co.uk/items/PRODUCT-RANGE/WRAPPING~FILLING/SHRINK-WRAP-BASKET-BAGS/list.htm

Their product prices are ok but delivery charges start at £3.99 and would be £6.99 for the size I need  so I found some on ebay for about half the price with free P&P:-

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351209565153?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

My plan is to shrink wrap the hampers to secure everything inside then gift wrap them.

Costa sell a pack of 5 small bottles of flavouring.

Ahh good point. :) I think it was last year, but Lidl had a few different large bottles of flavoured syrups in for just a couple of quid each. I remember picking up a hazelnut and a caramel one. Might be worth looking in shops like that incase they have them in again. :)

Fiery angel, so sorry to hear that! I second what pigpen says, pick a couple of small things to do so that you don't miss out on the fun!

Luckofthe_irish, the milkshake hamper sounds awesome! Maybe you could get some nice ice cream sauces and sprinkles to drizzle on the inside of the glass and sprinkle on the top with some whipped cream? I know someone mentioned some popcorn as well (think it was you but can't remember), and I saw some red and white popcorn tubs like the ones you get in the cinema in home bargains the other day(think they were 99p), that might be something you can use as well! My OH loves milkshake as well so I think I'm going to put some of the sachets in his treats hamper this year! What a great idea!

    Jo xx

Thank you so much for this - the popcorn tubs would be perfect, I have been looking for something like this. Will definitely try home bargains this week for some.

I appreciate all the ideas and support from everyone. My Mom said that she thinks I should just get him some expensive Clinque for men smellies instead as she isn't sure about the hamper but I really like the milkshake hamper idea... makes me slight unsure now.

I have already got him some CK boxers, chocolate and a 'Hello, handsome' mug (soppy, I know) so think if I go down the hamper route I will do one big Christmas treats hamper with the milkshake things included.

This sounds like an amazing idea! I graduated last year and would have loved for someone to do me a coffee hamper - I pretty much lived on £4 vanilla lattes from coffee shops, something I am continually regretting now looking at the state of my fiances. The syrups are a great idea (vanilla and caramel are yum) and Nescafe are doing Gingerbread flavour instant coffee sachets at the moment, I picked some up from Asda the other day for £1 and they are lovely!

Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
I had a big baking day yesterday and made loads of fudge. I made Vanilla (which turned out AMAZING), whisky (which I will have to melt again to make the pieces thicker) and chocolate (which came out too thin once set so I dusted with cocoa and made truffles!)

Poundworld are selling lovely rectangular tins with a hinged lid so loads of the fudge will go in there and be given to people.

I'm also making Jamie Oliver's EPIC Hot Chocolate (recipe on Stop the Cavalry Thread). All of the dry ingredients will be going into a jar and will be gifted alongside a big mug (Poundworld again), a bar of chocolate (big bar, I'm nice that way) and 2 or 3 MASSIVE marshmallows that are being sold in the American food sections of supermarkets.

Made my sister a small bottle of Skittle Vodka, and I'm going to use the rest of my whisky to make an infused beverage.

Sainsburys are selling Belvoir Mulled Winter Punch for £2.50 per bottle. I tried some at a Xmas event at a garden centre last week and it's lush (but almost twice as expensive) so I stocked up on Saturday :)
