  • I love this thread - you all have such great ideas!

Last year I gave food hampers for the first time and they went down so well I've decided to do them again! I'm going to keep an eye out for 'posh' things that are on offer - last year I found Christmassy cordial, crackers, chocs, nice oil, jam, chutney etc - and spent about £15 per hamper (each hamper was for 2 people).

I used old cardboard boxes covered in wrapping paper for the base and didn't have any cellophane so they ended up being completely wrapped, so this year I'll look for some proper containers and cellophane and ribbon to make them look a bit nicer!

Considering doing something for my parents as well - maybe individual hampers. Already have an idea for one gift for my dad - the razor blade sharpener, so thanks to whoever mentioned that!

(Sorry for rather long post, am getting excited about it now!)

I work in a school and if we got a little hamper like that I'd be totally impressed!

    I'd suggest:

    - individual sachets of fancier type coffees i.e cappuccino, mocha, latte etc. Most staff rooms have bog standard coffee which is usually bluergh.
    - posh biscuits - yum!
    - crackers - maybe some cheese and jar of pickle?
    - flavoured fruit teas
    - mints for going straight to meetings
    - posh crisps

Lovely idea, they will be thrilled.

Thank you for yours and mam23s suggestions! They're ace! I'm on it ;)

I've been thinking about 'teacher' stuff to put in hampers and thought of a few more...

    - little perfume samples to freshen/brighten up our days!
    - hand sanitiser - lots of little children mean germs everywhere!
    - tissues, to cry into when things are going wrong... :rotfl:
    - fancy soap/hand cream for the staff toilets, we have to use the same soap and hard paper towels as the kids :rotfl:
    - nice air freshener ornament type thing for staff room, some peoples lunches can stink!
    - a plant for staffroom.. we spend our breaks and lunches in there, nice to have it looking good.

That's all I can think of just now, good luck with your hampers/presents!

    Afternoon all! :hello:

I don't have a HB store anywhere near me but I have spotted these baskets on the B&M website that I thought would be useful for hamper-ing:

    2 colours, £1.99 each

    http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/satin-printed-basket-22x27x18cm-261809
    2 different designs, £1.99 each

Haven't seen them in person yet but will pop in to my local B&M on my way home tonight and report back :)

I picked up the satin boxes from my local b&m and they're pretty good quality. I got 2 black with white dots and 1 silver black animal print. Good depth for £1.99 :)

Glad about that because the store I went to last night didn't have any of either sort :( I have one more place to try and there's still no luck then I'll order from the website.

    Hi All

I am looking at doing a Yorkshire food hamper for Mum & Dad for Xmas, all suggestions gratefully received.

    cheers Muppet

A few years back when I was poorly and needed something to do I wrote a few compliments letters to some companies and Yorkshire Tea was one of them. They replied not only with a thank you letter but also a voucher for free Tea, a Tea Towel and an Apron. And now every year on my birthday I get free tea bags from them!

Give it a go as they would be nice to pop in it :)

Try ebay, there are quite a few sellers on there, its where I got mine from last year. In the past other people have suggested trying florists but when I approached my local one I was told categorically (and quite rudely) that they didn't sell it separately :( put me off trying anywhere else.

My local florist ordered me a full roll when she did her order .. cost me £15. This is around 6 years ago now and Ive not even used half of it yet!

What awful customer service your local florist clearly has!
