Am I Expecting Too Much?
Options
I went to see a car I liked the look of today. Took a test drive, took my current car with me and was ready to do a deal but the salesman and I were way apart with what we expected of each other.
The car was a Mazda MX5 Venture edition on a 13 plate with 3650 miles. The price on the screen was £16995 and I have a Hyundai i30 09 plate with 22500 on the clock which I was told was worth between £3000 and £3500 in part exchange. He would only knock £500 off the price on the Mazda.
I said I had £10k and the Hyundai but might have moved a bit on that if he had but he wouldn't.
Am I likely to get a better deal than that somewhere else? I will admit to being a bit surprised that they were so inflexible considering that I told him I wanted to buy the car.

Yes I think you were expecting too much.
You could probably of knocked off another £250 and maybe some free mats...but saying you have £10k cash plus a £3.5k chop means he needs to come down over 20% on his screen price.
Your better off selling privately and buying privately for the best deal.
Theres a red one on ebay with 5,000 miles for £15,595....saved you £1500 there....your welcome"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Advertise your Hyundai privately, it'll sell easily with that sort of mileage, worth seeing what WBAC will offer as a straight purchase for a base figure.
Buy another MX5 without the hassle of a trade in from someone else..
Come winter when its minus 4 no one will be in the least interested in buying a convertible, thats when i'd be shopping for a bargain..0 -
I think you are being a little ambitious, what value did they put on your car?
I think you will have to come up quite a bit to close that deal0 -

Thanks but I don't want a red one, or a white one or a black one.

I think this is way beyond ambition, bordering on taking the mickey. Had you said £12k at an absolute minimum I think you would have been closer but i'd still expect the price to have moved north wards by another £500-£1k.0

He showed me an Experian check that said three figures depending on the condition. Mine is in almost mint condition and the top figure was about £3600.
Not sure what I could ask if I put a sign in the car window."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Can I ask. If I went in with cash in My pocket, what could I expect to pay?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

What colour do you want then?
Grey one for £13,795
Blue one for £14,495 with a tan hood, looks quite nice!!"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -

So in effect, I would have to pay £12000 plus my car valued by them at £3600 making a total of £15600?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
