I've just finished replacing the hard drive in a Samsung N102SP with a SSD and did a clean install of windows 7.

The performance is a lot better, however it took over 4 hours to download and install all the windows 7 updates.

The inbuilt wifi is not all that great. 25mbs on speedtest.net 2 feet away from the wifi router.

    I have a 50mbs virgin connection.

Using a Pluscom USB adapter I get the same speed on the netbook as I get using a wired connection on my desktop.
Oh dear you are missing the point :p
Even if you can get 2Gazillionbitsper second download the weakest link is
    1) Their server upload speed
    2) Their contention ratios and your ISP contention ratios
    3) Virgins lose their virginity eventually especially if they have a queue to deflower them
    4) And I quote my friend spud17's ( ) signature
A watched file transfer never finishes.

Edit didn't realise you were not the OP

Have you checked the manufacturers site for hardware updates for firmware and drivers etc?

If you feel that strongly about it, you can change the internal wireless card. Have you identified which card is installed currently?

I find that when first installing Win 7 or whenever there is a hardware change, Microsoft comes in and updates the latest driver; from the harware anufacturer, if there is one.
Driver Booster is also an effective utility. It installs all the latest drivers. Its free to download and comes well recommended by Cnet and others.
As long as it is not in your startup list, it shouldn't slow anything down. Use it once in a while as you desire!

You need to stop. Seriously. You system is running poorly, yet you are recommending us to install the very things that contribute to the slowing of your system.

A CNET recommendation means little. Especially when they are happy to bundle in their junkware infested wrapper.

Yes I have, that was during the 4 hour update marathon.

I don't feel strongly about it, I just think it is strange that a USB adapter gives a better performance than the inbuilt wifi.

And before anyone asks why I don't use the USB adapter in the netbook it is used by another computer.

I am going to get a dual band 2.4, 5ghz adapter as my virginmedia router is a dual band router.

Wonder if they are cheaper in Guernsey or does that only apply to mail order?
over 73 but not over the hill.

    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 130 :D

From whence did you get the Driver? From Samsung or the Intel website?

Do you have a product key on a Microsoft COA? Are you using genuine disc with SP1 included? How is the machine activated?
Nah! Nothing to do with the OS as explained before. Read my earlier post.
I'm using an E6300 with 2GB of RAM.
That's a shame! Learn from my earlier post about 775 to 771 conversion.
Quad Core performance from just £12
    Its a nil brainer!

You don't explain anything earlier. I asked specific questions about the OS to which you haven't replied.
I know about the mod, I described the method in the post before yours.

Now, can you actually answer my specific questions about the OS?
