Transfering OS from Hard Drive to SSD

Have had to format HDs and do clean installs many times in the past. But it took many days to re-install apps and configure them. Then found I missed some!
So though I agree that it is the best solution, it will have to be the last option.
I will try and do what GunJack suggested. May be I am paranoid but having only Avast Free and Malwarebytes is going to make me feel like wandering around the north pole, naked
Next time that you run a clean install, take an image, using a program such as Macrium Free. That way you only need to restore the image, as everything will be intact, Will take perhaps an hour, as opposed to two days.0 -

I really wish more people would do this, and update it on a regular basis.... the number of failed hdds I've seen lately where there is no image backup is scary......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
There a loads of utilities like Commodo, Advance System Cleaner, ALLupdate, IObit Malware Fighter, McAfee Security Scan, Raptr, CSR Harmony, etc
OMG! No wonder it's so slow. Do yourself a favour, clean install of Windows on the new SSD and just use Microsoft Security Essentials and CCleaner (unless you make a point of downloading warez and visiting pr0n web-sites).
Boot Windows off the SSD and use your 1Tb hard disk for any media files0 -

Being a bit on the lazy side, I will leave clean install for the mo.
Yeah! for clean install on SSD.
I have a few external HDs. Couple of them are 3TB ones for double backups of over 1500 CDs and DVDs I ripped. At around 15 mins per rip, they took few months of my spare time. So they are precious. No RAID but hope that double backup will do.
The current internal HD would be handy for frequenly used media files.0 -

Immediately after clean install of the OS as well as all utils and programes?!0 -
There is another benefit to installing the OS from scratch for your first SSD drive, which is that Windows 7 will detect on installation if an SSD is installed and will configure a number of parameters to specifically suit solid-state storage devices.
These include caching settings, access optimisations and disabling of defragmentation - amongst others.
These will will not be automatically configured if you just clone your disk and will therefore have to be done manually for optimum SSD performance.• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0 -
I transfered the complete contents including the os of my laptop to a samsung evo 840 ssd using their data migration program and it works very well. But you do need a sata output socket on your pc/laptop, all I had to buy was the appropriate cable/adapter."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

Is the data migration program by Samsung a proprietory one or is it something that can be downloaded?!

Do u really need 240GB for OS?
Intel 520 120GB is on sale at novatech at the moment.
520 series date back to Feb 2012 and has been superseded; hence the low price, I guess.
Its a weekend only offer at £40. So I placed the order just now. £45.36 including a conversion frame and delivery.
Then they tell me that it is 'Out of Stock' and on 'Back Order' and the delivery date quoted is 11 Sep.
Anyways, hope I get it. Better late than never as they say!
Thanks Cisco001 for the head up :beer:0
