loveadove I'm so impressed that others know the awkward turtle. We also have awkward balloon, which is a little more discrete.
PheoniX you put one hand on top of the other and interlink your fingers. You then stick your thumbs out either side and circle your thumbs as if they are the turtles legs. With regards to the tablet, for me it would probably depend on when your birthday is or could the tablet be in the January sales?
Congratulations nannyg
Today has been a SFD, LTW and exercise dayOff to bed now as I'm knackered and I'm away most of the wknd for a wedding. Really looking forward to it but know it'll be a busy weekend and I'll be more tired by Monday.

Another NSD, though barely! I had a friend visit last might, plus a guest, both left this am. Urgent request from guest for tonight - young couple from Ukraine on their way to uni, got dates wrong and found themselves in town.a day before their flat was free. Said yes, even tho that makes it a nightmare to get ready for weekend. But not as much of a nightmare as they have been living - life over there sounds incredibly hard at the moment. So was pleased I could help. We have more guests arriving tomorrow night, but DD and I are off for a late camping weekend. My first since June, after a summer stuck inside following op. My budget for the weekend is £100 (pitch, fuel, food - but mainly taking from the cupboards here), but income from the house is just shy of twice that, so I figure chocolate biscuits are allowed! I also splurged and asked a friend to clean the house ready for changeover 2mrw...i am at work abd as these folk are here unexpectedly tonight, I can't get ready tonight like I planned. Cleaner costs half the price of the room tonight (wiping out any profit!), and is always nice not to do it all myself. Must do my expenses claim for last week's,meals 2mrw at work, if nothing else! Car is half packed ahead of trip
Hugs to all turtley bods who need it. PS sig long overdue an update..i paid nearly £600 off my family loan on payday (earlier this week!). Whoop! In the 3000's now, just!

Loveadove - a mixture of feelings I think - elated, obviously, but also I think paying off my debt has made me realise how little I actually earn in the real world and how much I need some savings. So the next few months are focusing on that, but on the bright side 9 months ago the thought wouldn't have even occurred to me, so I think that's progress. Am going to go and close the account on saturday, so that'll feel good!
Know that feeling of not earning very much - sometimes you feel as though you aren't a 'real' person, especially as far as banks are concerned.[Deleted User] wrote:I have had a busy morning so far - furniture put out for council bulky uplift (they said they could pick it up earlier than expected so it was a mad rush this morning getting it all sorted). My new couch is arriving on Tuesday and it is very much needed.
Had a good read over the thread. I love the idea of getting sorted for winter so I will look at getting started on that. I think I will make a new draught excluder to start with. I would also like to make new curtain/blind fop my back door. I just looked out my sewing maching on Tuesday and had a lovely evening making new kitchen cloths (I make them out of old sheeting) and some lavender bags.
Lovely feeling getting rid of the bulky stuff - still trying to get DS2 to organise his. Lovely sewing too, feels so satisfying, making the house warmer and making pretty things. Half my lavender is hanging up to dry (left the other half for the bees but will bring it in soon).
My DH told me the other day that he had cleared both his balance transfer cards, but he still has £400 on another card thanks to unexpected car repairs, still it's looking good now. I have some money to pay on a 0% spend card but I've worked out that won't take long.
7 SFD here now which is 3 off my target of 10.
I'm trying to use up my back stock in the freezer before the new stuff I have bought. Will be making some more soup today, I bought lots of sweet potatoes so I think I nice sweet potato and lentil soup, yum yum.
You're not rubbish, doing well clearing balances, using what you have and making soup - I want soup, I seem to be living on sandwiches.
Congratulations nannygladys.
luckystarr well done on the exercise.
I haven't heard of 'awkward turtle' either but it sounds seriously cute.
I have had a strange day. I am not going to moan but may have to go out in the garden and scream loudly.
Yesterday's painting has left me with very little energy today but DS1 came and did an excellent job of cleaning the window frames at the front of the house and painting the guttering plus finishing a couple of little jobs (for him) that I would have struggled with.
Used up 3 wraps, improvised a slightly strange filling of cheese spread and apple slices. I have carpet in the hall , stairs and landing but the workmen were a bit odd. One said "These doors will have to come off" and looked at me expectantly. I looked back at him (they had already seen me going up and down stairs 1/2 a step at a time and said he could do it for me (neglecting to mention that they would bu**ar off and leave said doors propped up in the kitchen). Other bits that are minor niggles, just things done not quite right when no problem to do it a better way.
DS2 has yet again failed to pay into the bank the money that was due last Friday but lovely DS3 finished his 'commissioned' game overnight, been paid and came to tell me he had already transferred another 2 weeks rent to my account. He has already sold 10 copies of the game in addition to the commissioner's copy and is doing well on the one he released recently but that money won't be in until next month or later (the host site only pays out when you reach a certain amount and their accounting date is mid-month/ end of month pay date.
Mum is still hanging on waiting for a bed to become available. So spent several hours there (after the carpet men had gone) and more of the same for tomorrow.
I have a date for my surgical consult - 6th October at the furthest away hospital (three different buses, well over 2 hours traveling each way, even if the buses are all in sync). Will be over 2 months since my diagnosis but have accepted the appointment, really can't wait any longer. Checked the a-z and it is over the border in the next county so will cost about £10 as day tickets stop at the border.
Today I am grateful for DS1, DS3 and even DS2 (can't leave him out he always claims the others get preferential treatment). He's nice to his grandma. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -

In the end the council did not get the chance to pick up my old couch and coffee table as someone knocked on the door and asked if they could have them. Really happy someone took them and will get use out of them (I had put them on freecycle but no takers).
No major plans for today. I have a half day today so I will get outside to the garden this afternoon and plant some dafodil bulbs. I am hopiing the fog lifts by then.0 -

An excellent result, I love recycling.
mothernerd - that sounds like a hell of a bus journey, and the government wants us to use public transport more, do they realise how expensive, time consuming and plain hard work it is.
I did my Lidl shop last night, we got lots of stuff for £58.80 including some goodies, we got peanut butter, granola, 2 pots of hoummus, nuts and dried fruit and some other indulgent bits. It is a bit hit and miss with regard to stock, there one week not the next but on the whole the food is nice.
Both of the kids are going on a camp this weekend they leave tonight and come back Sunday teatime, this is the first time in 10 years we have had a full day let alone a night without at least one child. Unfortunately DH is a cub volunteer and is camping tonight, coming home tomorrow morning then going back Sunday morning. I will miss them obviously but it will be lovely. Tomorrow me and DH are going on a 37 mile bike ride which I have planned.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Hi gang
Fmess lol to the awkward turtle hand gesture! Must be an hilarious ice breaker during those awkward moments :rotfl:
Dolly I agree, public transport is a nightmare these days, its much cheaper for me to get about and to work by car..
Mothernerd if I lived up your end I would give you a lift to the hospital myself
So.. Last night ended with a washing machine drama, where the blooming thing started to beep like mad and lights all flashing  and to top it all, clothes and bedding are stuck inside the machine and wont be released until Monday when Briti$h Ga$ rock up! I dont know why the landlord couldnt sort out a washing machine repair man for today
Spend day today.. Last week I budgeted £30 for new bedding. Saw 2 I liked in BnM bargains for £15 each today but when I got to the till, one of the pretty embroided duvet sets came up as costing a £1! The confused cashier commented on the bargain but didnt query it so I made a scurried squirrel dash out the door! :T
Fmess My big birthday is in November. Family have been asking what I would like and I couldnt think of anything til now! I mentioned the hybrid tablet/laptop I had seen and they thought it was a great idea and wanted to contribute so I ended up buying it from Te$c this morning while it was reduced, using money from the emergency fund which I will replace the month after next :A
I did some tilly tidying earlier and have got my credit card balance down to sub 2k! I have also done the deed of chopping up the evil credit card into little pieces because while I have a balance available on the card I will be tempted to spendI think I only have 10 months at 0% so I need to focus on paying it off rather than adding to it..
Going to cook my lunch now and get stuff ready for work!

I am really excited today. I spoke to my dad and he has said I could have £490 for my credit card this month (he is playing about with my pennies).... this will take me under £3000!!!!!!!
:j
Hooray for internet banking is that I should be able to see this really quickly.
Today will probably be a spendy day as I am working all weekend and need some food for lunches.
Hope everyone is doing well.
