No I wouldn't expect them to say anything as they are quite happy to take my money and then complain! When I did the ordering the guy made a mistake and said that's 28 quid and then said oops no its 23 quid and I said bloody ell i thought that had gone up quick, now there was the opportunity to say ZERO policy to swearing but no because I hadn't paid yet (this was a diff person, but well If they have the rule then surely all employees should be aware of it?) Why did this other employee choose out of all the OTHER tables which were all empty to sit near to us? We had ALREADY placed an order for that table and were sat before the staff member took the other table! Apparently they MUST take their breaks AWAY from customers.....err! Its a pub that advertises their 3 flat screen tvs with football on, really you telling me a pub full of men/women (not to be sexist) and there is NO swearing going on? Really I could understand if there were other ppl around and I would prob have been more aware of what I was saying, as I do in work (oh and I work on customer services so yhea I get the brunt of customer fury at times, but I am always professional would prob be disaplined if I oi'd someone), but seeing as HE placed himself where he could overhear our conversation then I don't see how as a paying customer he had the right to OI me! If he wanted to take the moral high ground then excuse me would have been more appropriate. No not being able to swear did not ruin, the rest of the meal, what ruined it was feeling self-conscious that he was listening to the conversation, and worry that i might accidently say another swear word without realizing! And i did apologise, (yes shock horror i swear but i also say please thankyou and sorry, who would have figured!) at the time i said oops sorry didn't realize i was, but that didn't stop me feeling like it was rude of him to oi me! Oh and i had some of my hen night there too, prob swore worse then being drunk and NOT ONCE was i asked to stop swearing, zero policy, really when it suits them!

Hen nights and a quiet meal in the same venue at different times is two totally different situations...do you understand that? What may be acceptable as banter at midnight on a Friday could be wrong at lunch on a Sunday in the same place?

A pub near my old house used to throw people out if they refused to remove their hat, swore or kissed.

He had a very small pool of customers

But, did he allow customers to relieve themselves on the floor?

Not to mention it is a criminal offence (s5 Public Order Act 1986) - try swearing at a copper and you'll be in the back of a van before you can say "Excuse me officer, may I finish my meal"

I don't swear very often, but I would be a bit miffed if I was told off for swearing in a pub. If pubs started banning people for swearing they would end up pretty empty.

Entering a pub and buying a drink does not give you you a licence to swear.

A group of us once got barred from a pub for singing happy birthday to one of the lads. Other than that we were behaving ourselves - their reason was we were singing it too loud! they used to ban people for the slightest reason and ended up almost empty in the end. Strangely enough they were under new management about a year later!

Does this all boil down to you wanting compensation?

To be honest I can get the swearing because people swear. I can't imagine why you would be overly swearing during a meal but hey ho. It does seem to indicate that you have no respect 4 the employees and the pub though so bear that in mind. You wouldn't do that in a posh restaurant so what makes it acceptable in a pub? That is your business though.

End o the day you want compensation because you weren't allowed to swear and you are now digging 4 problems to substantiate your claim. It all boils down to your bad manners and a (probably) overworked 6.36 monkey who just wanted to have lunch in peace. A bit cranky that to be honest. And also, were you looking 4 compensation why would you actually go back there were they to have wronged you so badly? I don't get that either.

To be honest you might come across as a cocky !!!! to a large number o people were you to make this comment...;) People make mistakes and they earn peanuts and probably have to work !!!! hours and hear customer "banter" which has been said 100 times to them.
Why did this other employee choose out of all the OTHER tables which were all empty to sit near to us? We had ALREADY placed an order for that table and were sat before the staff member took the other table! Apparently they MUST take their breaks AWAY from customers.....err! Its a pub that advertises their 3 at screen tvs with football on, really you telling me a pub full of men/women (not to be sexist) and there is NO swearing going on?

To be honest it could be that you were being rude and the employee sat near you to actually say something rather than take a scheduled break. It does sound like some !!!! has gone down that you're not telling us.
Really I could understand if there were other ppl around and I would prob have been more aware of what I was saying, as I do in work (oh and I work on customer services so yhea I get the brunt of customer fury at times, but I am always professional would prob be disaplined if I oi'd someone),

What is wrong with an "Oi" ? It is just a way to gain attention. Maybe the guy just says "Oi" when you would say "hey" or "ay up" etc. As long as HE doesn't swear then he's just either telling you to adhere to the rules or telling you like most other assertive people would when you were being rude. Being assertive and confrontational is NOT NECESSArILY rude...

feeling self-conscious that he was listening to the conversation, and worry that i might accidently say another swear word without realizing!

Well done! Now you know what it is like to be most people (not just your mates on a weekend !!!!up which is more acceptable than a quiet meal in a pub). It sucks in a way but that is etiquette and you do sound a bit brash which you have to admit will rub people the wrong way

I could understand if I had been warned when I swore at the bar while I was ordering my meal but I wasn't, and therefore it was okay to swear while I was handing over my money, but not okay once I had paid?
(Just for Giraffee69 I'm starting a new paragraph, go me!) Wait....does the ) go before the ! or after? No doubt someone from the grammar police will be along soon to correct me if I'm wrong!
