Told off for swearing

So a close friend of mine and myself went into a local pub for a meal, we were the only ones having food and there was no other customers in our area. I order food from the bar and return to my table. We receive our food, and start chatting, along comes a member of staff on his break and sits down on a table near us, a few foot away (bearing in mind there were plenty of other tables available further away) chatting away my friend indicates that this staff member is saying something to me, so I turn around and he says 'oi mind your language' now im the first to admit the odd swear word does come out, I don't pretend to be a saint but there was no-one else around apart from him! I wrote and complained in Email about this and the response I got was they have a zero policy towards swearing, and therefore he was quite right to tell me to stop....actually no he didn't he oi'd me. They also pointed out that their rules were that staff should take their breaks AWAY from customers which he clearly did not, but they were still backing their staff with regards to the complaint. I paid nearly 25 quid to take a mate out who is having issues and I couldn't finish my meal because I was too self conscious of everything I was saying as I felt like he was listening. I was not informed at any point that there was a zero tolerance, before I paid for my meal, I mean in a pub you wouldn't expect it! I want to ask for my money back since the way I was spoken to was rude and I was unable to enjoy finishing my meal due to this, but im not sure how I go about it?

Please tell me that this is a joke post.
You seriously think that they should have warned you not to swear before taking your food order?
If the employee's proximity inhibited you then you could easily have switched tables to one as far as away as possible from him so that you could 1) finish your meal, and 2) continued to swear to your heart's content.0 -
You couldn't enjoy your meal because you didn't feel free to swear?0

Talk about first world problems.
Swear words are not necessary to have a conversation - it doesn't matter if the place is empty or not, the same rules apply. He could have kicked you out, be grateful he oi'd.0 -
Why didn't you just apologise to them and carry on chatting without swearing? I do swear at times...but not being able to because of where I am and who is near does not spoil my enjoyment.0

You weren't told there was zero tolerance? Are you having a laugh, do you not know swearing in public (yes it was a public place) is just plain rude. Or are you saying it's ok to swear in front of staff because they don't count?0

Well done to the pub.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Was it the C word, or the F word?
Or every other f****ing word?
Or what?
I've sworn in pubs before, not "nice" pubs .... but the 6pm Friday session when with a group of local manual workers on their way home from work .... a local bar, for locals ....
If you're paying £25 for two meals, then it's definitely "too nice to swear in". If it was two meals for £5.99 and nobody else is about then I'd say that was f***ing fair play.0 -
You think its bad about being told off for swearing? We were kicked out of the pub for laughing to loudly on a Friday night at 9pm
A pub is private property and as long as they arent breaking any outlawed "isms" (racism, sexism etc) they are free to set the rules they want about conduct.
Now if you were actually kicked out before being able to finish the products you had purchased then there may be a possible discussion to be had about appropriate information etc but as you were only warned then no foul.0 -

A pub is a private place that the public are allowed access to, unless informed otherwise.
Wetherspoon (which I assume this was ?) have had a 'no swearing' policy for many years now. They announced it 10 years ago http://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2003/jun/04/features11.g20 -
