Because this is the sad society that we are living in today.

Because some people want something for nothing.
Or in this case, something for a longer-than-expected wait.

I'm surprised that the OP isn't expecting compensation for wear-and-tear on his shoes from walking back and forth between the front and rear of the shop.
Oh, and what about possible 'White finger' from ringing bells and pressing intercoms?

    Compensation? Get a grip, mate!

I think people try and over rate themselves as a customer. Because people know the general idea of making complaints and maybe getting a goodwill token people now just expect something. A customer though should be profitable. People like that will not just only want compensation when the slightest thing goes wrong but wonder why they don't get goods at cost price just because their a 'good customer'.

It often makes me chuckle when I read advice on here given to op's saying do this - your a good customer! They don't even know them! It seems you just have to go near a place now and some think their good customers!

    It's a deal.
As an experiment I shall write a letter the M&S head office saying I had terrible customer service, the assistant was rude to me and I will never enter there shop again unless I receive damages - The £10 gift voucher by return of post is GUARANTEED.
