I love the ending of that film, but the dialogue is a bit different from what you remember:
Manco: [counting reward sums of outlaws he just killed] Ten thousand... twelve thousand... fifteen... sixteen... seventeen... twenty-two. Twenty-two? [a cowboy comes from behind, Manco turns and shoots him dead] ...Twenty-seven.
Mortimer: Any trouble boy?
Manco: No old man. Thought I was having trouble with my adding, it's all right now.
still not as good as my proposed dialogueChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Haha, you're as bad as Peter Griffin for wanting the Movie title to be said in the dialogue.

I think his reason to be is more about being debt free rather than owning a house so I suppose, in his own way, he's been successful.
If he's nearly 50, he could be debt free and have a house as well by now.
I'm sure it'll fall on deaf ears but the advantage is the next 45 years rent free (and a lump sum too if you downsize).0 -

He comes across as someone who considers he's made some great financial decisions. As he was already a homeowner and sold to rent in the mid nineties I assume being debt free is a massive priority and home ownership much less so.
Maybe he doesn't care so much about house prices these days but has got into the habit of arguing about them on the internet. Strange behaviour if you ask me0 -

If he STR'd in the mid 90s, when house prices where at their lowest in a generation, then that shows a complete lack of financial sense. I just hope he only screwed himself and not a family with such a terrible decision. I can see why he's so bitter now though, can you imagine how it must have been to watch one of the highest asset rises in history and know you've made a conscious decision to ruin yourself financially?0 -

Luckily I made the direct opposite decision at around the same time. I stress luckily because I just didn't want to rent; buying seemed obviously the better option but I had no idea prices would do what they've done since then. The naysayers in fact were telling me prices were just too high.
I bet Crashy wasn't in too dissimilar a position and his decision to STR was more about 'issues' other than an opinion on house prices.0 -
