So it's a warning that there's a gap - and you're not allowed to make U turns there.
Except that it's a triangle, not a circle ... so it's not a prohibition.0 -

Ah, I'd forgotten that bit by the time I'd loaded/unloaded streetview...
In that case it's a warning sign ... that something is happening. And the happening is U turns. So it's a warning that people might be doing U turns.0 -

I thought triangles were warnings,
Red circles = dont do something,
and blue circles = do do something.0 -
Well it's not in 'Know your signs' - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/222621/dg_191955.pdf
Warning about traffic turning into your side of the road might make sense0 -

Yes except
Picture of car inside red circle = no cars
Picture of bent arrow inside red circle with oblique red stroke = no turning in direction of arrow
Consistent eh?
Suppose it is like we know that 30 in a red circle means "do not exceed 30mph", rather than simply "don't do 30" so 60 would be o.k.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I wonder if its a warning that the U- turn provision in the centre of the road is such that a longer vehicle (e.g. articulated lorry) may start the turn in the left hand lane and cross the path of those in the right hand lane in order to get enough swing to get round the tight curve? However even if that's the case its not intuitive so driving past it at 40mph and having to work out what it means suggests its not very useful!
Edit - looking elsewhere, another suggestion is that the line up the middle is supposed to represent the central reservation and that the sign is there to indicate an upcoming opportunity to do a U turn across the reservation!Adventure before Dementia!0 -

what red circle? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions. The same sign is on the other carriageway as well. I think the suggestion of some sort of U-turn/right turn warning is along the right lines given the road layout. I am not really bothered just puzzled as I'd never seen it before. As I will probably never go back there then its not a worry.
I can see that advantages of that sign though. As you drive up, you see the sign and go "!!!!!!!" and automatically slow downThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
