Popped to the co-op earlier for ladies toiletries (say no more) and chocolate (well they do go together :) ) It means I have £3.24 left for tomorrow and a £5 voucher. Will do a top up shop tomorrow, which will last until next week (trying out fortnightly deliveries), so it has to come in under £8.24 and then I've managed to come in under budget for September :D

First ever time using the newspaper vouchers in Aldi. I was all excited about being able to add extras to the shopping list without going over budget!

But then got told off at the checkout for not using the correct voucher procedure :rotfl: the vouchers must be separated and placed upon the item on the conveyer. Well now I know I will do it right next time. I'm always a bit stressed in Aldi anyway because I get told off for putting my groceries straight into bags instead of the 2 step process of trolley then bags. I don't see how it matters when the bags are open in the trolley, and I'm not holding up the cashier!

Made a couple of quiches yesterday (spinach and feta/ cheese and tomatoes) plus some brownies and an old fashioned pineapple upside down cake. Not had that for years and it was delish with a blob of ice cream :) will defo make that again soon.
The first time I used the vouchers, they had to rescan everything and it took a few minutes longer and now I always put the items on offer at the beginning of the conveyor belt with the vouchers. They didn't say anything when I did it 'wrong' but they always thank me now for being so organised!!! It seems that sore stores are more friendly than others!

I agree about the packing! I have a big ikea blue bag in the trolley. I stack big things loose e.g. Milk, bottle of drink and cat food and everything else goes in the blue bag. If I am doing a big shop I throw the last few things in the trolley and bag them up when I get to the car. I agree, if you are not holding them up, what is the problem!?! I think it depend on the cashier!

  • Well, all shopping done for September. Final figure was £257.61/£250.00.

Really pleased with how it's gone on my first attempt at doing the challenge again. I was spending £300 p/m so a nice saving on that, even taking into to account the minor overspend.

    Onwards to October!

September shopping is all done. Just spent £3.11 on our weekly top up (used £5 voucher, so should've been £8.11) of 8 pints milk, 2 packs of chicken fillets, 2 loaves of bread and 7 bananas. That brings September's total in at £159.87, which is an underspend of a whole 13p!!! :money:

Struggling not to spend the last £2.60 of my 5 day challenge, we are out of eggs and cheese. Tonight I go out to dinner (different budget and it might even be paid by my friend) so it does not count.

I hope DH and DS will be happy with pasta or something similar

Not a NSD as we had to buy a big expensive ladder, but it is an investment that will pay for itself over the years, no more paying window cleaners, for life! And we had to pay our friendly builder's workday, of course.

Tomorrow big shopping day to start October challenge. Got 4 x £10 off a £40 spend in w8rose vouchers, I might just shop there every day for the next 4 days as they expire on 5th October. I reckon that the other shops are appx 25% cheaper so it means I buy w8rose quality with the l1dl price, if I am careful to keep the shops down to £40 or very near it. Normally if I do a big stock up shop I would spend around £100 so it might work. Will update on the October board.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • September 2014target was £172 with the £100 for my McMillan coffee morning. Total £272.
Actual £407.18. Over budget £135.18. Quite mixed result. I have had lots and lots of NSD but my three shops were inflated by buying value gin to make lots of sloe and damson gin for Christmas 2014 and sugar for making jam. Our garden has been heaving with autumn raspberries.
