Went to aldi and farmfoods today. Spent about £40 on both. Will update when I find my receipts! Aldi had run out of a lot of voucher stuff e.g. Chicken goujons, malt loaf, waffles. Hopefully they will be back in by Wednesday! I will be under this month but have got to get ds1's party food on Thursday so almost an extra shop next month. Will have to change target to accommodate!!

  • Hi all,

I'm afraid I'll have to go down as a DNF this month, as I have completely lost track of my spending.

It's turned out to be an unusual month for me, with two visits to the vet for my cat who has been diagnosed with paronychia (an infection of the claw bed which can be bacterial/viral/fungal or even a sign of something systemic like a tumour.) She is too old for anything that requires knocking her out, so we had to get the infection under control, as she was clearly in pain that wasn't being managed by her Meloxicam.

So I haven't had the mental discipline to record every spend, or keep up with reading this thread. I don't feel like I've spent too much really (if I take in the big picture) as I never bought any treat foods or processed stuff. But I never even got organised to do my mid-month batch-cook, yet here is the end of September and there is still soup in the freezer and full jars in the cupboards, so clearly I overbought during THIS month.

An overstocked kitchen should mean I spend very little in October. I think I will use next month to try and get back into a rhythm with cooking, and aim to come back for the November GC.
  • First ever time using the newspaper vouchers in Aldi. I was all excited about being able to add extras to the shopping list without going over budget!

But then got told off at the checkout for not using the correct voucher procedure :rotfl: the vouchers must be separated and placed upon the item on the conveyer. Well now I know I will do it right next time. I'm always a bit stressed in Aldi anyway because I get told off for putting my groceries straight into bags instead of the 2 step process of trolley then bags. I don't see how it matters when the bags are open in the trolley, and I'm not holding up the cashier!

Made a couple of quiches yesterday (spinach and feta/ cheese and tomatoes) plus some brownies and an old fashioned pineapple upside down cake. Not had that for years and it was delish with a blob of ice cream :) will defo make that again soon.

  • Well, this month was a complete nightmare. I completely unexpectedly found myself having emergency surgery less than a week in, and only now have I recovered enough to start picking up the household pieces as it were. My husband and parents did an incredible job holding things together but as it was a time of crisis receipts and the like were not kept... ;)

Still, I'm getting better, I have a good job who pay me full sick pay and are very understanding, and although I have no idea how much was spent on groceries in September we did not have to resort to credit. All in all, a lot to be thankful for and so I'm dusting off my hands and getting stuick into October's challenge now!

Another NSD today but will need to spend a few £'s tomorrow.
We had roast pork yesterday with lots of veg and tonight we are having the left over pork with a few home made chips and salad.

Have just taken two bags of stuff into the charity shop so a little less clutter in the house - although plenty still to sort through.
Off to sort out a smallish pile of paper work now that has been shoved to one side and forgotten about.

IRISIS - glad you are recovering and that things were managed well while you were not able to do it.
    MARCH £62.38/250
  • well I am declaring approx £470 a bit over my planned budget but this month seen me be more aware of what I was buying. So that is good in itself.

So here's to October ... then only 2 months to Christmas ;)

4 days left of this month including today. I didn't spend anything Saturday or Sunday but have noticed there is only 1 loo roll in the cupboard:eek: I cant see this lasting until Friday so a small spend may be required before the end of the month.

DH and I are taking part in Stoptober and are looking to combine this with a healthy eating month. I will have to speak to DH about what he means when he says healthy eating as we eat quite well as it is. Some serious planning will be required if we are buying a lot more fresh F&V so as not to increase waste and blow the October budget.

Also my 50p Scottish tablet was substituted for a packet of tunnock teacakes. They never have that tablet in so it's a fun game to see what they sub it with.

Haha, that sounds like a hilarious game, do they just sub it for anything Scottish that they have in stock???

Spent £1 on pizza for lunch today but that should be me done spending-wise this month. Had a nice day out on Saturday and didn't spend anything on drinks - free coffee at Waitrose then a free cocktail at Pitcher and Piano in the evening
