Spends now at £139.16 so going to be in budget again this month.
Lots to pay out next week as car ins is due and gas service, we have saved the money for these though over the year and will be ok.
Will post budget on the Oct thread either later tonight or tomorrow.
Good luck in last few days to everyone.

Saver-upper, no, in terms of budget a toaster is not a consumable. If I were to treat it as an accounts item in a business, I would class it as equipment.

Today I stocked up a bit more and felt all happy that I had spent very little for a lot of good food, then temptation struck! DH and I were walking near some shops where we need to order some paint, but walked by a fantastic ice cream parlour. The ice cream sang me a siren song and I succumbed. DH did not rescue me, but agreed to share a large one (better value than 2 small ones). We came out £4.30 poorer, but with a smile on our faces.

Now I only have £5 to spend in groceries until 30th September. However I have lots of food in and the only thing I shall need is a small bit of cheese. So I should be ok.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Thank you for the advice re toaster Solstice-3 and Caterina.

The issue did have me thinking abit this afternoon.Because you can buy just about anything in the world in some supermarkets (food, white goods, toasters, school uniforms, clothes, etc),and I had, last month, bought school uniforms in Tesco but NOT included it in the grocery challenge,it got me thinking where you draw the line. Then,as soon as I read your definition,Caterina,I thought "Oh,of course!! "Consumable Vs equipment" is perfect.

    Soooooo,since I last posted:
on the 24th I spent £5.89 at corner shop on onions, cucumber, milk and cleaning spray,
today spent £19.61 in ALDI,and £8 in ASDA on large box of washing powder (reduced from £10).Box says it lasts for 65 washes.Pah to that-I will get about double that amount :).

So my total spend for the month so far is £315.22/£300.Glad that budget didn't include the toaster .Still may have to buy more milk by end of month.

Am going to try to lower that in October.......And to think I had been aiming to lower my target for September

3 days left, and £7 something left :) Also still got a £5 voucher for co-op. Popped in to Aldi yesterday for some of their super six apples, a carton of milk and saw their crisps were 99p for 10, so picked up a couple of bags. Spent £3.70 ish there.

  • Declaring at £200/£200 for September. Once again I failed to post on the thread but we stuck with it and stayed on budget. I didn't count to the penny but the tin is empty and that seems to be enough of a tracker for us.

    Hi all

Declaring a whopping underspend of £120.67/£175. Not shopping now until Wednesday night.

I pretty much ran down my cupboards and freezer to do it, and ended up being quite inventive towards the end.

Very chuffed. As I usually spend about £200, I'm putting the £80 saved in the Christmas kitty.

Cannot see me bring able to do it again in October, but I'll have a go!
