  • Hi I'd like to join please. I'd like to set the budget at £100 for September 1st - 30th. We are on holiday next week so thats a different budget. Just done an Al*i shop with voucher £37.05 and have another voucher so I am going to do a list to stock up on dry stuff etc.
I did spend £13.41 on my favourite coffee last week as it was half price but I paid on CC so I am adding it to Sept budget if that's ok. Full freezer and storecupboards.
I have been following for a couple of months and its definitely helped. It's just me and hubby but he works away all week (but not for much longer) and our little Gracie (dog) also lookafter 2 x GC during the week but they only tots so don't eat much at moment.
Thanks to everyone who runs this site ur stars:)

  • I went to Tesco today as needed to buy some snacks for a meeting tomorrow and came out £11.25 lighter. When you think that my meal plan this week meant that I didn't need to buy anything it's amazing I've pretty much spent my £30 budget anyway.

I'll be ok if I get through the next few days without visiting a supermarket. I'm hoping for 2 NSDs Tues/Weds so fingers crossed.

  • Bought Asparagus, orange juice cartons, sparkling water and flapjack from Aldi today. Can't find receipt but it was £2.06.

Would have bought more if I could; however I was on public transport and killing time on my Dd1's first day at college, so would have struggled to carry it. I miss Aldi; but transport costs don't really make the shopping a saving.

  • I wasn't sure where to post and join in to which challenge as the next 2 weeks are going to be a tough one for us and its these weeks I really want to focus on from spending on groceries and making do.

This and next weeks food budget has been eaten into (pardon the pun) due to a payment being more than we anticipated today!

Therefore I need to be uber frugal this week and make use of what we have in our stocks!

A bit of background - We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children (aged 8 years and 18 months) and a fussy pedigree cat (I note pedigree as I am sure this is what makes her so darn fussy)!!

I am going to set a challenge of £45 this week and see how it all goes for next week! This will include toiletries, cat food, bread and milk (this is the weak spot). I have already spent £83.98 this month (our payday month runs from the 20th Aug > 20th Sept though) and overall I hope to spend no more than £250 this pay month.

I am currently keeping a spending diary and can minus the previous amounts off the £250 budget so far (as nearly 2 weeks for us has already passed)...:

My tally thus far = £148.58 and I aim to spend no more than £45 this week - this is going to be tough!

Yesterday I cooked oxtail stew in the slow cooker and the total cost was approx £6 - oxtail, onions, carrots, swede, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower & some dumplings. We had three portions yesterday plus mum took a portion home and tonight DH & myself had another meal each plus 3 portions for the freezer. So it worked out at £0.66 per portion.
Today I have made some ginger biscuits with ingredients that were already in so all in all a good frugal day.

  • I did a big shop in aldeee which came to £32.something. Was supposed to be £20, but the extras were things I needed for later in the month, so think will be ok.

To those worrying about school dinners... In my school, we have a 75% take up for infants having school dinners. The others will be sticking to packed lunches. You can't be forced to take the dinners, so there will be provision for the packed lunches. Key stage 2 will still be having packed lunches anyway! Plus, the dinners aren't huge, in my school it's a lunch's worth of food and children will still need a main meal once they get home. Hth. My son has just left the infants!... :@

Bf has offered to buy the children and me fish and chips as our dinner tomorrow, as he's away with work on date night this week. Lush! That's a dinner to carry over to next week!!

Dd chose tuna for sandwich fillings this week, and ds will choose next week.

Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • Evening all,

Been a bit lazy recently, updating here! DS had a party on Sat, 30 mins away from home, so I went to the shopping centre and ended up spending £8.73 at pound stretcher.

Then yesterday Bf and I had a picnic in the park with hm food, but decided we needed cakes - I got 4 lemon meringue doughnuts reduced to 50p but he got £4 worth of cakes (need to have a word about OS GC ways!!! Total £14.48 (£3.50 for a book for dd Christmas present) Then to Lid! for sandwich fillers £2.48.

Finally we went to A!di today and spent £47.68 on f+v, eggs, dairy, meat offers. I am cancelling my veg box, so hopefully this will be the total spends for this week! I really need to think about next weeks menu plan so I can empty the freezer, as soon as possible.

Hope everyone's day is enjoyable by all, tomorrow.
