September 2014 Grocery Challenge

Well after a complete catastrophe that was August, decided to join September!!
It started off ok, then my Mum and Step Dad decided to go to Canada at short notice which left me looking after 5 dogs and 6 horses and a fridge full of food.... As well as working full time ! So recording my spends went out the window...
I suppose it's worked in my favour really as my payday is from the 6th to the 5th of every month but I want to change the grocery challenge to calendar months as its easier to work out. Also I have taken the dog food out of the equation as I buy this online when cash back rates are good and usually more than one month at a time which makes it more complicated to include.... Everything else is fair game though!
Anyway I've decided to go for £375 this month and see how close I get :rotfl: this is for me, OH and DS13 who seems to have seriously hollow legs! Just done an online shop with @sda which will be delivered on the 1st so will include this, total so far £88 exactly....:)0 -
Did my first September shop today, £88.56 in lidl, sure things have got a lot more expensive in there too recently!
Meal planning (or lack of!) is where I tend to go very wrong, so I've meal planned for the week, any further than that and it just all goes wrong lol
Hope everyone is having a good weekend0 -
Still spending August money as my month will run 1st to 30th September, but I have a fair amount of food in from last week shopping, the only missing stuff being butter.
Looking forward to the challenge and pleased to announce that DH is on board. DS on the other hand, did not quite roll his eyes but his sigh spoke volumes. I told him that I shall buy him the odd chicken Kiev and he was marginally happier! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Thank you for letting me join the challenge for the first time last month.I'm back....................................
We are a family of 2 adults,4 kids age 12 and under. In August my budget aim was £300.Up until this morning I had spent £206.65,and was thinking how well I was doing. But there was the £5 off voucher, and I did need chicken, and fresh fruit/veg(because I am trying to be good on Slimming World),so I went to ALDI and spent another £66.25 .
Until this morning had been thinking of challenging myself to lower my budget even more.(I could have avoided this mornings shop if I was completely happy with eating out of store-cupboard,but there was too much fattening stuff in there). But I will leave it as it is,and see how it goes. The other thing to consider is that one week of August was spent on holiday,so groceries came out of a different budget.
So,in September (1st to 30th),I have a budget of £300 .If I am very good,I might lower the budget next month
Good luck,everyone :TSPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

Can I join please I am trying to reduce my debt and I know over the last few months grocery shopping has got out of hand - with me nipping into shops to pick up bits and coming out £30 lighter on top of my main shop! I am guessing I have been spending £400-500 a month for myself 21 yesr old DD 12 year old DS with a bottomless stomach and 10 year old DD who would eat junk all day!
I am aiming for £300 and should be manageable except i have a a friend coming to stay next weekend and I have offereed to cook Sat lunch and dinner (think i have persuaded him to take me for dinner Friday!) and will need wine etc! But on the plus side DD1 is going on holiday for almost 2 weeks and DS might be going to stay with his dad for a week and both younger 2 will be at thier dads 2 weekends!
My freezers and store cupboards are quite full and I have done my first shop of the month £93 in Al*i - but this included toilet rolls kitchen rolls dishwasher tabs shampoo conditioner cat food and other items that will last most of the month. Got lots of fresh fruit and veg that I MUST make sure gets used - I am trying to feed the kids a bit more healthily!
I need to make sure I menu plan, use left overs and shop with a list!!! Will be looking for inspiration for cheap nutritious meals on here!
Off to have some home made lentil soup for lunch!
Sorry love am a bit confused here, do you have 3 children or 4?
But will say your 10yr old couldn't eat junk food all day long if its not there to eat, , you are in charge so just buy what you want them to eat, yes you will get winges and moans but if you stick to your guns, they and your budget will be healthier, good luck, get tough.Slimming World at target0 -
