Decided to change my shopping method for this month. I usually do a massive online shop on payday which sees us through the month for tins, storecupboard and freezer and then just top up on fresh veg, milk, bread ham, fruit etc that you always run out of really quickly. The problem is, I always end up buying too much fresh and struggling to use it all before it goes off so end up binning some stuff. It also means that little top-up shops become expensive as other things inevitably slip in.
So, today I have paid £30 to have free weekday deliveries from Mr T for a year (normally spend £4.00-£6.00 a month on delivery costs for the monthly delivery). This will not only save me money on delivery costs, it means I can order a weekly shop, take advantage of any offers that week and use up everything up before it goes off. Also much easier to plan a menu each week then each month.
So first shop done and provisionally costs £62.29. Will update with exact figure once it's delivered. The plan is to use £62 per week so I can stick to the £250 per month budget, and will just have to use some frozen leftovers in the planner somewhere to cover the extra few days at the end of the month.
Fingers crossed it works and I don't mess it all up as I have done monthly shopping for as long as I can remember.Debt free since May 20150 -
I'd like to rejoin please, need to refocus so target for Sept is £250.
Have had a chaotic few months, not proper shopping, topping up fresh stuff and unfortunately lots of junk items have been creeping in so spending going up plus store cupboard essentials running low.
Have been inSains this morning and done the first major shop for months. Have spent £142 of the September budget, main restocking done, will need to get a few bits from Morries or Tesc depending on who has the best deal.
Need to get back on track going into the autumn and do some proper meal planning and budgeting.0 -
Can I join please I am trying to reduce my debt and I know over the last few months grocery shopping has got out of hand - with me nipping into shops to pick up bits and coming out £30 lighter on top of my main shop! I am guessing I have been spending £400-500 a month for myself 21 yesr old DD 12 year old DS with a bottomless stomach and 10 year old DD who would eat junk all day!
I am aiming for £300 and should be manageable except i have a a friend coming to stay next weekend and I have offereed to cook Sat lunch and dinner (think i have persuaded him to take me for dinner Friday!) and will need wine etc! But on the plus side DD1 is going on holiday for almost 2 weeks and DS might be going to stay with his dad for a week and both younger 2 will be at thier dads 2 weekends!
My freezers and store cupboards are quite full and I have done my first shop of the month £93 in Al*i - but this included toilet rolls kitchen rolls dishwasher tabs shampoo conditioner cat food and other items that will last most of the month. Got lots of fresh fruit and veg that I MUST make sure gets used - I am trying to feed the kids a bit more healthily!
I need to make sure I menu plan, use left overs and shop with a list!!! Will be looking for inspiration for cheap nutritious meals on here!
Off to have some home made lentil soup for lunch!0 -
DH salary is a bit less than expected this month so I am going to reduce my target by £100 and give myself a really tough target of £230.
I have been to Aldee and Mr S today to do the shop for the week and have spent £62.48 but have most of the dog food for the month and have bought loo roll, tuna and bits like toothpaste and bin liners which wont need to be bought again this month.
I spent £44 on food which I need to get down below £40 for the next 4 weeks if I am going to hot my target. £7 of this was on coconut water as DH is doing his 3 day monthly juice diet and I have bought an awful lot of fruit as I need to improve my diet after being run down for the last 6 weeks.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Eeeeek. A few bits from t-sco turned into £83 worth of groceries.... But lots of frozen veggies and fruit now so the only thing left to buy should be cheese, milk and fruit over the next few weeks!
Must also make a meal plan (lol, courgette followed by courgette anyone?!) have found a couple of recipies in addition to the suggestions posted, am going to try courgette muffins and potato and courgette bread :-)
