I did think about it first.. I asked him 3 questions about why he thought he needed one. Fair play to him he came up with good reasons and we even thought about making the most of the interest free period on the card.

PigginSkint, I hope you don't mind asking but do you know if there is any link between autism and difficulties with potty training? My ds is possibly (well, definitely in my opinion, but still awaiting diagnosis) on the autism spectrum, and he isn't yet dry overnight. He's 7 years old and has been dry through the day since about age 2 and a half.
I think there is – I only have my own experiences to go on though. Food seems to be a common issue – that’s the one I know about! It’s to do with their senses being different, if you know what I mean. We have had dreadful battles but he is a lot better now – he eats a lot more variety than he used to and he is not afraid to try new things now.
I sympathise with you re the diagnosis business. Autism was first mentioned as a possibility when DS was about 2 (because his speech was delayed), he got a statement of special needs when he was 5 (his 2nd term at school) – which was an absolute Godsend as he would not have coped with mainstream school otherwise. He didn’t actually get a formal diagnosis until he was about 10, I think, but it only proved what we already knew. It’s a great step forwards because it opens up all sorts of doors for support and so on.
You probably know this already Snaggles, but it is not the end of the world. The way I see it is that DS is a normal child whose brain works a little bit differently. And the best advice I have ever read (if I could remember which book it was in I would tell you!) is play to their strengths, because they have plenty. Obeying rules is one that springs to mind because rules are their friends because they help them cope with life! DS is now nearly 13 (my baby is nearly a teenager  ) and he is an absolute joy and compared with what some parents have to put up with from their ‘normal’ children, I realise how lucky we are.PigginSkint's debt free diary

It’s a pity you’re not breastfeeding. I always found if that if I had half a pint of guinness just before feeding DS, he would sleep like a dream! :rotfl:
By the way, before anyone shouts at me, I did not make a habit of this – I think I did it once, twice max.PigginSkint's debt free diary

Ryan has problems with food too, we really struggle to get him to try anything new, although he will eat fruit and veg thank goodness so it's not a major issue.
We sort of feel its as though he lives his life with the volume button turned right up, so he feels/hears/tastes/reacts to things more intensely than a 'normal' person, and I wonder if this is partly what makes him retreat into his own little world sometimes, because the 'real' world must seem like a very scary place if you are like that."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
