Hey snags, Amber wasn't out of nappies at night until she was 8 so for her I think there was certainly a link. I know she has a real problem with filtering out stimuli, so every noise, smell, touch etc is at the same level, that's hard to cope with. If you imagine when we go out how loud everything is and how many noises we hear, birds, cars, roadworks, planes overhead, voices, but we filter out the ones we don't need to hear, so most sounds will be quieter but things we need to hear will seem louder. Our kids don't seem to have this ability so it gets really scary at times. I was shown a video once which simulated the effect, it was awful and that was without the added bits like smells etc. The only way I can describe it is, you know how we feel when we have an awful cold and have to go into a really busy, bright, noisy shopping centre. That's the closest I can think of, but it helped me understand what they go through

It took a long time to get Amber to go out of the house without having a major meltdown, and even now we have a buggy for her which she gets into if she needs a safe place to go and withdraw.

Sar I have an apology to make. I went back to bed and haven't posted the mic. I'll do it tomorrow I promise but I'm not sure I'm fit to drive today. Sorry :o

Don't worry! We've decided against a practice on sunday instead opting for a beer fuelled evening talking about what direction we want to go in with the band.. Next practice will be a week on sunday. :) By which time we should have recieved the trigger thingy and double pedal seeing as Ste's now officially the drummer...
This muso lark is bloody expensive isn't it!!!! How do you manage????

Well, if I told you we have drum kits which are insured for £67,000 for the 3, that gives you an idea of what you've got coming :)

Then there's the small matter of the 5k a year I spend on sticks and cymbals :D

I do buy sticks by the box (seeing as I usually go through 6 a night) Hotrods last a tune usually, so there's a MSE saving (don't use rods unless you're at gunpoint) :rotfl: I'm forever cracking cymbals which are around £200 each (depending on what cymbal it is)

Still glad Ste's the band's new drummer? :rotfl:

Ahead are aluminium aren't they? I don't use them, I don't like the sound or the feel. I tend to stick with zildjian or vic firth.

Ste should check out the Sabian Neil Peart Paragon series cymbals. I love them, the sustain on the crash is amazing. I'm not a big fan of the paragon high hat, it's a bit dry. I'm super fussy about cymbals, it took me 8 hours to choose a splash one day. I was in the shop from morning to closing time and tried every single one. I actually ended up getting one custom made in the end. Nightmare!
