  • Welcome back Nintud and mobo1980,and a big hello to Frugal foxy! :hello:
  • You're not alone.I used to do this.Having a budget helped a fair bit.Ask yourself if it's something that you really need. Also working out why you feel this need to spend is important. Are you bored,do you feel you deserve a 'treat',does spending money give you a sense of excitement?
A spending diary is also a good help,if you do it for a while. It lets you see exactly where your money goes.

Thanks marmiterulesok. I go uptown cause im bored and cause there is money there i have the need to spend it i always seem to be waiting for the next pay day.

And welcome from me to the new starters. marmite will issue you with your Ennessdee Towers coffee mug and term starts promptly in 1st September. Study the school rules on page 1, you will be tested on them later.

(No, Igor, we do not stuff the newbies' heads down the school toilet. That punishment is reserved for more senior pupils who utter the dreaded F word. New starters who use the F word are given one chance, after that it's an interview with Shaun the Shark. And a third offence receives a plateful of your Brussels sprouts curry.)

theresamum 2 with two children you shouldn't have time to be bored. Do you have a structure to your day? Eg up at say, eight am, wash, dress, breakfast, household jobs ( getting the girls to help according to their age and abilities), short break for coffee/milk and biscuit, brief play session for girls while you plan next shopping trip or do menu plans or do batch of ironing etc, lunch, then out somewhere with girls e.g. a park or some free event where you don't need money, home, play/jobs then start evening meal etc etc??? Structure and routine leaves no time for boredom.

Useful tips include leaving your purse at home, only shopping with cash (when it's gone, it's gone), planning your meals for the next month or even just the next week, making a shopping list and sticking to it, and of course joining this challenge.

Think bored was a wrong word i know i can go up town cause have the money. Im never really bored cause always busy with the kids i go uptown and then we will have lunch in a cafe then maybe go to the soft play i spend money on silly stuff like eating out instead could stay in cause we don't need to gpo out everyday got loads of stuff to do in the house Thanks nargleblast for the ideas

  • After struggling in August to meet my targets unless I didn't leave the house at all, I've decided to be more lenient with myself and make local public transport an allowable spend. Sign me up for 10 NSD in September please.

theresamum2 oh I remember it well, taking a toddler into town and having lunch in a cafe, bit more expensive nowadays! How about making lunch out a once a week treat, and eating at home or taking a picnic to a park the other days? Then your cafe lunch will feel more like a real treat. (Also, I found, a good opportunity to teach little kids how to behave at the table).

If you are friendly with another mum then you could perhaps take it in turns to host a lunchtime play session or a posh afternoon tea where the littlies can dress up and have fairy cakes and tea out of real china cups? No need to spend a fortune there.
