Did you actually find any tar-spots?

If you do, a MAPP gas blowtorch, oxyacetylene torch or plasma cutter represents a great way* of softening the tar making for easy removal.

*I accept no responsibility if anyone believes that.

Gotta hand it to the OP, this thread wins the prize for "most amusing thread of the week so far". :rotfl:

One of my best friends is called Lance. He would be most flattered to be described as a "hot spot".

I hope the OP isn't driving on roads anywhere near me; I'm not sure he should be allowed control of a vehicle. Plus, the Highways Agency aren't complete fools (though sometimes it seems that way); if they were using things that could have caused so much damage to vehicles (thus generating many insurance claims) they would have closed the road entirely.

It rained here yesterday and, as the ground was still warm, it steamed as it evaporated... can I sue the Almighty for potential undercarriage corrosion?!

Is it nearly term time again...? ;)

Yep. I'm mandated to take a break, but that doesn't stop me using my phone.

Sounds like they were burning off asbestos if you can smell its certainly not good. I know because my dad does it for a living. Everyone knows you have to turn the blowers of and hold your nose when you got past these things.

    Good luck.
