I have been applying for a lot of jobs, according to many of the advisers I have seen when signing on.
My interview technique is poor. When I actually went to an interview intending to be (and actually being) myself I got the job. That was what was holding me back - not the type of jobs that I was applying for.
I had been applying for many low-skilled routine jobs (albeit not ones on zero-hour contracts).0 -

And do you think I have not been applying for various jobs over the last six months??!
Given your comments on here about the OP's job, you've made very clear how picky you are about what you'll take, which will of course have limited your chances. We'll never know if you would have done better by being wiling to take whatever was available, but it's hardly likely that you'd have done worse overall.0 -

Cleaning toilets would give you an infintely better chance of making it to manager of a corporation than signing on.0 -

If shift patterns aren't flat, then employers should employ more people to cover peak periods, than they do to cover quieter periods (on proper hourly contracts). They can also use overtime.0 -
It suited me fine when I did it. And the quality of my work ensured at the busiest times I was getting dangerously close to three figures hours worked per week. Nice little earner.that was as much overtime as I could handle.
But you were working overtime. That is different. (You can't work overtime on zero-hours contracts as you are not contracted to work a set number of hours per week)0 -

And it's that attitude which has got so many of us applauding you and searching out help for you :T:T
You will do well if you keep with that once you are in work ( I'm sure you will )
I've worked where I am for 7 years. I started just to help out doing the bar one weekend for a function and before you know it was getting shifts two or three times a week. Being flexible with what I was prepared to do also helped. Like I say, started 7 years ago with only bar experience and now I'm happy cooking for two to three hundred a day
I wish you all the luck in the world with not just this job, but with your application to Tesco xx0 -

I wasnt working over time, (you do know there are only 168 hours in a week right?) But was working all the hours I could. 90 ish left me knackered but with great pay cheque. I wasnt much more than NMW but it was a good living.0 -
I firmly believe that you get nowhere in this world without a little effort & flexibility, I will sign the ZHC, but I have also opted out of the Working Time Regs, so I can do as many hours as they can give me, which is also good for me
Some people (In general, not just on this site) think that if the wait long enough, someone will do things for them, to those people I say sorry chum, but no-ones gonna wipe your !!!! for you, put a little effort in and you may get somewhere0 -

Fair enough.
But your earlier post did say you were working overtime.
That suggested to me you would always be working a set number of hours per week (plus overtime on top of that).
That is entirely different to working on a zero-hours contract.0 -
