That is when benefits come into play. The OP will always be guaranteed a minimum income.
Why are you so negative? Can you not just be happy for the OP?0 -

People have lost their homes through no fault of their own because of this type of scenario.
Could be assistant manager in 6 months, branch manager in a year or two.
Your advice would be to just keep on signing on though as a life on bennies is at least predictable?0 -
The OP has access to benefits so will still know his minimum income.
Why are you being so negative to someone that has been given an opportunity? Do you have an issue with seeing other people succeed?
I'm not being negative towards OP at all.
I am arguing against people that think everyone should apply for every job going, just because they are in work and don't like being "ripped off" by "non taxpayers".
It is not straightforward to sort out your benefit payments when your working hours are constantly changing. The benefits system simply can't keep up with the number of changes. What are people meant to do until the benefits system does keep up - live on thin air?0 -

So, do you think OP should turn the job down?
Would you turn it down in their situation?0 -

I wouldn't have applied for the job in the first place. It is too high risk, and why should companies get away with offering zero-hours contracts? Whilst looking for work, I was still applying for a lot of jobs. Several advisers at JobCentre complimented me upon this when signing on.
That is me. Other people will take a different view when jobsearching. That is up to them.0 -

You are being negative - you have made him doubt whether to take the job. Your attitude is terrible, you should apologise to the OP for detracting from all his good efforts.
How about, even if just for today, you stop moaning and offer some support?0 -
And if the alternative is a life on benefits?
Of course, I am late on the uptake but I have just seen the irony of this post.
Zero hours contracts normally don't take someone off benefits - they often subject people to remain on benefits. Just sometimes different forms of benefits.0 -

How about you stop your benefits bashing for just one day?
Particularly when you have proposed that you are socialist leaning in the past.0 -

I truly wish the OP all the best and hope they do really well.0 -
I suspect there is a certain amount of envy on your part at seeing someone trying the better themselves rather than just sitting back and whinging.

I will be starting a new job myself next week. so don't get your point at all......
There is a difference to saying well done to someone and good luck for the future, and deciding that you wouldn't have done the same thing in the same situation (bearing in mind your personal situation may be different to the other person's). Just because I have said, I wouldn't have applied for the job, doesn't mean I can't wish anyone else the best for taking the risk.0
