You sort of sum up why Britain is such a draw for hard working immigrants.
The OP appears to be a young person who want to actually get on in life rather than sitting at home doing nothing.
I respect him/her for that and find your attitude appaling.
They just don't want to be treated like !!!! by their employer. Would you tolerate being treated like !!!! if you were a customer buying something from that same company?0 -
well done OP and good luckYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

Ignore the negative comments tt1983, you have a great opportunity and I'm sure you'll make the most of it. It might not be ideal but it is a step in the right direction, and better to be on the ladder than sat at the bottom hoping someone lets you skip a few rungs.
For those criticising nil hours contracts, keep in mind that almost no one has rights in the first two years, so a 25 hour contract is no more secure or reliable than a nil hour one.
Best of luck to you, I really hope things go well.0 -

You know the minimum amount you will be getting paid though - which you need to know if you intend to survive financially for any length of time.
You don't need to start off in a zero-hours contract. No-one should have to work for such an exploitative company if they don't want to.
Topaz, you clearly want to work and am now going into this job wide-open. So well one and good luck to you.0 -

The OP has access to benefits so will still know his minimum income.
Why are you being so negative to someone that has been given an opportunity? Do you have an issue with seeing other people succeed?0 -

And if the alternative is a life on benefits?0 -

Of course not. Did I say that?
There are fortunately still plenty of jobs available that are not based on zero-hour contracts. You can focus on getting those jobs or becoming self-employed.
Job searching is not about making crap applications for as many jobs as you can. It is about making quality applications to fewer companies. Scatter-gun approaches aren't really likely to work.
You have previously stated you are fairly left-wing in your views. Really I can't see it.....0 -

The OP has been searching for a job for three years. Should he wait another three just so he can have a few hours written on a contract? You are aware of the economic profile of Rotherham, aren't you?0 -

The OP seems pretty on the ball and has been looking for work for 3 years.0 -

How does it help someone if they work 20 hours one week, and one the next?
People have lost their homes through no fault of their own because of this type of scenario.0
