Good idea, I am going to re instate my daily spends chart so I've got a more accurate idea of what we are actually spending day to day on groceries etc and so far we have no social events or midweek magical mystery tours planned for September.
It's been a bad few months - car insurance for 4 cars, final payment for holiday, nearly £2 thousand to the builder for the work on the front bedroom and the new fence ...“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. We've just put one up in the garden, a 10x6.
Nowt growing in it except lettuce and wheatgrass.
What are you starting off in it?
I need ideas for late crops
My onions and garlic will be started off in it. Next year it'll be tomatoes and cucumbersmight even get some chillies in there too
It's a 6ft x ?2ft lean to one, with sliding doorsperfect to go behind the shed up there :j
I was given some leeks for planting today so they've gone in. I've got some broccoli and kale to get in this week, and some strawberry plants to get in when I've dug over the bed they're planned for.
Today we've got rid of the awful wooden composter that was already there when I got the keys. The top part was great compost, the middle was iffy and needed a lot of separating because the previous people had shoved a load of plastic in there
The bottom quarter pretty much all had to go to the tip because whoever built it used painted doors to build it with and it was full of paint chippings :mad:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Looking for some culinary inspiration please. We had roast chicken for lunch today and usually have it cold with chips or fried potatoes and salad the next day, but I fancy doing something different with it tomorrow. Trouble is, I have no idea what! Any ideas please?
Yet another vote for curry - if you don't know any good recipes, chuck in some Patak's paste (half quick curry, half biryani paste) and sultanas and plum peeled toms and whatever other veg you fancy. I fyou make it too hot, bung in some yoghurt.

Did my good deed for the day. Spotted a lost looking elderly gent standing by his car in As car park with the bonnet up and holding a set of jump leads, bless him. I won't tell you how many people just drove past him
My battery is next to the drivers seat, so didn't even need to get out of the car2 minutes later, car started and he was on his way :T:T

I've sowed carrot seed in a raised bed last week. No growth showing yet!!
I'm too late for everything.
I love kale so might try that.
Shame about your compost
Paint chipping a would be pretty hazardous to grow stuff in.
I've got a little composter. Its doing so well that I can't be bothered with the separate wormery.
The worms on the compost bin are totally mind blowing!!!

TrulyMadly wrote: »Have you heard about the story of Kitty Genovese and the Bystander Effect?
There's a very interesting section on this in 'Superfreakonomics', basically debunking it as an urban myth. The murder did happen, and there is a 'bystander effect', but virtually everything else that is known or believed about the events surrounding the murder case are pretty much wrong (most of it made up by the newspaper reporter who first wrote about the murder). Good summary here
http://digest.bps.org.uk/2007/10/truth-behind-story-of-kitty-genovese.html
For example, "whereas the myth states that none of the apartment residents overlooking the crime intervened, in fact the murderer felt compelled to abandon his first attack after one of the witnesses shouted at him."
And you can read the chapter here
