@ Lucky in Life - garden is getting a full revamp - new patio, and path round to side gate, stepping stone path to new garden den, re-turfing lawn oh and a soak away to protect the den which is at the bottom of a slight incline.

We want to make it as low maintenance as possible, it's terribly neglected and hasn't been used last few years as it totally got away from us and has become depressing to sit in  Don't think either me or DH will ever be gardeners. :rotfl:

Totally agree with your comments about house improvements, no point sacrificing everything to overpay the mortgage.

When we decided not to move I set up a regular overpayment so we do overpay by £500 each month. Our mortgage is currently about £110k (if only we'd started overpaying years ago!) so still 5 or 6 years to go. As I get older though I'm all about control and tracking finances.

    How about you?

You are brave doing tree removal yourself - we had some taken out last year and got tree surgeons in - as I say we are not very good in the garden ;)

2nd quote back for study plastering work and it's one third of the cost of the first one :j Got them both from check a trade which we've got really good experiences with so thats a no brainer!

No other money news, managed a few Tilly Tidies and hoping to have a bit spare which can go into my ISA next week.

Arial man due tomorrow to finish off. New tv unit from M&S arrived yesterday so can't wait for him to finish so I can clean the lounge, DH can build it and we can start using it.

    Welcome to the weekend folks....

@ LuckyinLife - good luck with the work - will be checking out your diary later. And plans for mortgage freedom at 40 make me very envious, didn't get my light bulb moment til I was over 40, when I think of all the money wasted before that

Managed to get up early and for once am already dressed, determined to stop my lazy weekend habit of sitting around for a couple of hours in pyjamas before I actually do anything.

Taking DS to the shops today, he checked his bank balance this morning, was pleasantly surprised and now feels the need to spend - I tried to enthuse him about savings by showing him the £0.06 in interest he has made this year - don't think he's too impressed!

He also needs some new casual shoes and some new trousers since he somehow managed to leave a pair of jeans behind when on his school trip last week (along with half his underwear ). Also want to be out of the house while the arial guy finishes off.

Not much else planned, but a ton of jobs to do at home so doubt we'll be bored.

Thanks Pushkin i know what you mean hign sight is always a wonderful thing isn't it we all waste money over the years

If DS needs some enjoyment from saving i think premium bonds are a great way to save at the begin of every month he can check to see if he won anything :] always fun

It's good that you have everything budgeted for Pushkin. We could have got a smaller mortgage too but I wanted a designated fund for doing up the house. Unfortunately we've done hardly any of the things we wanted to do but found lots of extra things that needed doing. :) We have about £3000 left so hopefully that will get us all the needed things.

    I've been a MFW since I was about 5. :D
    Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%
    Overpayments - £48829.37 :j:j:j
    Mortgage paid off Jan 2020
