It's good that you have everything budgeted for Pushkin. We could have got a smaller mortgage too but I wanted a designated fund for doing up the house. Unfortunately we've done hardly any of the things we wanted to do but found lots of extra things that needed doing.
We have about £3000 left so hopefully that will get us all the needed things.
I've been a MFW since I was about 5.
Having paid the arial man nearly £1,000 I know what you mean!0 -
So yesterday I took a rather grumpy teenage boy shopping. Agreed he could get some c0nverse shoes - £45!!!! I was sorely tempted to say I'd order them on line as I'm sure can get them cheaper than that but they put a smile on his face and he wanted to wear them there and then. Am forcing myself not to look how much I could have saved.
Also got him some new jeans - he chose a pair virtually identical to his current pair. He takes after his father in terms of sartorial choices - if liked buy multiple pairs, each day just pull the first thing found out of the wardrobe/drawer and wear.
Dust and mess left in house is shocking, spent a couple of hours sorting the kitchen, DH built the new tv cabinet and then we ran out of energy so had dinner and watched some telly.
Today need to write a job list and be a bit more structured. Won't get everything done but need to prioritise.
Study plastering work starts Monday 27 Apr so also need to work out when to finish off emptying the room, source a new carpet & desk choose paint colour for walls etc .0 -
Got £6.45 cash back today from some tickets I bought, just transferred it to bank account.
Also ordered 18 eggs from supermarket, one was cracked when they delivered them so I get the lot for free - £2 savings (small acorns)
Nothing else very exciting, still lots of sorting out needed in house, feeling very apathetic about work, really need to step it up a gear.
Still plugging away at the surveys but on a rather random basis so not expecting any payouts in near future.0 -

Hi Luckyinlife - I work from home so yes use the study every day, DH is a techie (I swear we could launch a space rocket the amount of computer gadgetry we have in there) so also uses it a lot too.
I will be very glad to get it done, having ALL the stuff from there in the lounge makes it so so cluttered - I think unless you have a massive house this is the way it goes when you redecorate rooms. I'd love to get the bedrooms re-carpeted at same time cos it would be cheaper but logistically it's impossible.
Sounds like your plasterer is a speedy worker - if he's finished already in one day!0 -

Hi Lucky in Life - carpet versus wood flooring - am strictly a carpet girl (apart from kitchen & bathroom!). Wood floors can look great but I like to feel cosy in the winter and have a nice shag pile (ooh errr missus) under my feet0

Well first day in the office for months - find it very stressful going in there (pathetic I know), had to get up at 6 to walk the dog before I left, traffic was horrendous, couldn't get network connectivity very easily, the hot desk I was at didn't have a phone - etc etc. Poor dog won't leave me alone either now I'm back - don't think she has appreciated being left alone all day.
Bought a sandwich, bottle of diet coke & a bag of crisp in the office which came to £4 - so glad I'm not spending that every day on my lunches!
No money news but Friday is pay day and hoping to have a surplus few £ to find a new home for - either cash ISA or slush fund.0 -
Am so hating my job right now - hopefully just a bad week, just sick of internal politics, [STRIKE]arguments[/STRIKE] discussions about petty things that don't really matter and simple questions bouncing around for months on end because nobody will make a decision and the group is so fragmented - the joys of working for a large, global company.
I get very little reward (job satisfaction not money) so do struggle with motivation.
On the plus side today's pay day, shoved some money into cash isa, need to check if I can carry on once it gets above £15k and have 2 years allowance in the same account - now that we are into the new tax year - I get very muddled about financial matters.
Big house tidy tomorrow morning, also need to go and find a carpet for the study this weekend and probably get the paint with the aim of painting it on the bank holiday weekend.
Ready meals for dinner - dislike cooking at the best of times and never ever feel like it on a Friday....0 -
We have friends coming round for dinner this evening so good motivation to clean and tidy the house - will only be to a limited extent given the study contents are in the lounge so there is a lot of clutter.
Just strong armed DH into a dump run so he's just headed off - we had a massive unused satellite dish dumped in the corner of the garden when the arial work was done so he's dismantled it and loaded the parts into the car. The garden may still be a state but I am mighty relived its gone
Over-walked both myself and the dog by getting a bit lost while we were out so felt the need for a coffee break before I start my chores - very naught :rotfl:0
