Asda complaint email - bad service!

I am writing because I would like to escalate my complaint made to your customer services telephone team regarding the disgusting service I received from one of your delivery drivers. I was offered a £5 voucher to shop online and I don't feel this is acceptable as I do not wish to risk having my order delivered by the same rude driver again. He could barely say a word to me despite me being friendly and thrust the receipt in my hand with no explanation. When I asked if there were any substitutions he just said 'looks like it'. I hesitated before getting my shopping (I have a bad back) and he said: 'well it's yours' to imply 'don't expect me to pass it to you' so I had to bend down repeatedly in front of him as he did not step back and stood directly in front of me - as a woman this made me feel very uncomfortable. After wordlessly implying I should sign, he then stormed off without even saying goodbye. I felt like I had done something wrong! I feel really let down by Asda, this atrocious experience is the first time I have shopped with you in years; I normally shop online with Waitrose or Sainsburys and the difference is remarkable. So no, I do not want a mere £5 voucher to shop online with you to experience the same again and wish for this complaint to be escalated to the next stage.

You know that this site isn't asda?

Anyway sounds like you've had a really shi!!y driver (or at least one having a bad day)

Do you want advice on the contents of the email or have you already sent it off?
  • Hah, yes I am aware of that. I pressed send accidentally before posting more detail. Advice would be good.
  • I mean - am I being unreasonable? Have I just been spoilt by other companies simply passing the bags to me and that isn't actually standard practice? He could tell I was struggling with my back, I actually had to call my partner out from the bathroom to lift them for me! At the very least a hello and goodbye would have been nice, or for him not to stand with his crotch near my head with me self consciously pulling up my top when I bent down!

I think you've just had a bad driver, maybe you'd be best finding out what store your shopping came from and call the store direct, if you could remember the drivers name that's even better. If you've called the 0800 number then that goes to a call centre in South Africa and there useless!
  • Ahh that was the accent of the (admittedly nice) lady I spoke to who kept apologising for my 'inconvenience' which isn't the right word really; it's not like I've got beans instead of spaghetti hoops and will now have to change my dinner plans...that's good advice I'll call the store directly, thank you.

I always take my shopping out of the crates myself. Have I been doing it wrong all this time? :(

I wouldn't call the driver who delivered to you rude, but maybe just not friendly. Also, I'm not sure what the next stage is as far as complaints to a retailer go. A £10 voucher instead of £5? I don't think they do a lot better than that.

Shop at Ocado then and they will bring it in the house and take it out the trays and put it on the side if your back is that bad
  • It's a temporary injury so it's not normally a problem and I have no problem getting it out of the crates, I was about to start getting them out anyway but the two second gap in me not being fast enough made him snap at me. The issue was how he acted rather than asda's policy of helping or not, just basic manners. I'm sure he doesn't get paid vastly differently from the really polite and friendly drivers I normally meet.
As far as escalating the complaint, I don't want any vouchers at all - the girl on the phone said she would escalate it to her manager without me asking her to but they were unavailable so I'm just taking that step myself. What's far more important is that he gets some retraining or something so he doesn't treat other people badly.
And he definitely was rude - I guess you had to be there!

The only really rude driver I ever dealt with was from Ocado and I never complained because I don't like to cause people problems, but I never shopped with them again and that was four years ago.
