If you have a back lane just tip your rubbish out in the middle of the lane. If my council started a fortnightly collection, I'd just be dumping my rubbish. Obviously not my letters or anythign else with my name or addess on it :D

Let the council learn that it's taking the p*ssing collecting less than once a week.

I blame the damn tree huggers, they should be shot for putting ordinary hard working people out with all this saving the enrivonment nonsense.

Sounds like a middle class whinge to me.....

I suggest you eat as much of the food as you can so there is less to throw away. If your worried about over eating, then cook / purchase less.

I can just picture a load of rich fat people sitting around in their houses wondering what to do with their excess food. Then deciding its all too much and just chucking everything in a black sack and driving off to the local dump in their 4X4's. Then buying a copy of the Daily Mail on the way back.

For your info i do empty the food waste into the brown bin at the end of each day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont make my own compost because where we live all it does is encourage rats.

I managed perfectly well before becuase our binmen were very good and took all manner of rubbish that we left out, now they are not allowed to!!!

How can i reduce our rubbish!!!! rubbish is rubbish at the end of the day!!

Your post is offensive, go back to the DB board and carry on offending people there!!!!!!!!!!

You can reduce your *rubbish*. In fact we're all going to have to, as the planet just isn't big enough for us all to discard things and expect it to be dealt with.

There's plenty of people on here who compost, with no problems. If you don't add cooked food, meat or fish scraps, you shouldn't get rats. I compost everything, and I have hens, and we don't have a rat problem.

You can't just throw things away - there is no *away*

I have lived in areas where there is fortnightly bin collection for five years, and I can honestly say I have never had a problem with it. I only have two bins, one black for general waste, and a green one for garden and food waste, as well as a little box for glass and cans. The only time I have ever filled either of the bins was when we first moved and had loads of packing, but that is a rarity.

If my garden was large enough I would compost - as another poster said, I live in an area rife with rats (under the wrong conditions) but have never heard of them interfering with compost heaps.

I know that these schemes take a bit of getting used to, but they really aren't that bad. Novelli - am I undestanding correctly that this is a reltively new system? If so, it is bound to take a while to sort the kinks out, but if you give it a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to manage. As you can see from the reponses on here, the most vitriolic seem to be from those posters who still have a weekly collection - those of us who already have a bi-weekly collection geerally manage fine...
