Dropbox:
Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Never email yourself a file again!

I use Mega for large files, as there is no file size limit below the 50GB for the free account and Hightail for smaller files, under 100MB, as you can produce direct download links to make it simple for recipients to download. Both free.0

Can someone else upload a file to my account on Dropbox/Mega/Hightail or do they have to create their own account ?0

They'll need to have their own or to use your sign in details.
If you don't want to create an account, there are other options.
Such as DataFileHost. Though it has only a 150MB upload limit. You can find others, according to the file size.
Tip: When downloading, untick the option for the Download Manager.0 -
The files shouldn't be that big, maybe up to 50MB.NiftyDigits wrote: »They'll need to have their own or to use your sign in details.

Dropbox would be the best option, you just create a free account and can then just share the files with your friends (dropbox will send them an invite to view your files). They can then upload their own files and share them with you.0
