Sharing large files online

kwikbreaks wrote: »Well we've moved off the original topic which was an alternative to email for passing large files to a friend. I think just about any of the suggestions made will do that for the file size the OP mentioned. Mega seems to claim the crown for free space offered if the files are large.
I took it offtopic by considering backups and none of the free cloud options will fully cover that but the real killer would be file transfer times. My images seem to be about 80GB and would take an age to download and even longer to upload. I could cut out somestuff in the backups for sure but not enough to make much of a difference and still have viable backups. For those I'll stick to my NAS raid box.
Not a problem, as the OP had his answer some time ago.
Indeed, uploading a 4GB file can take me all day and often appears to fail.
It doesn't hurt to know what is available currently.0 -
So I'm off your ignore list....:rotfl:NiftyDigits wrote: »How does a UK data centre help? The government will sell you out in a heartbeat.
Looks ok, though the pricing is unclear. A suggestion of £168 for two years.

Wandered off topic.
It has moved to syncing rather than sharing.
I have Sky (O2) with around 700mbps up.
I put together a mixed folder of various types of files totalling just under 2GB.
Box estimated 20+hours to upload using desktop program, double the time of the others.

Ah! not on the proper ignore list...:)NiftyDigits wrote: »No, you are still on it, to remind me not to waste my time to assist.
I don't have a problem with reading your posts, if they make sense.
I don't believe I've ever asked for assistance, but, carry on not assisting. Thank you.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thanks all, I didn't need to use this in the end.
I'm sure all off the suggestions could have been used in one way or another.
But I liked the look of NiftyDigits' DataFileHost [1] suggestion, as you can quickly share a file without creating an account, just upload and get the link.
As I intended to get someone who isn't fantastic on a computer to share some files and they take forever to do things, so getting them to create an account would just be another time consuming task.0 -

This has got to be a mistake.
Do you mean 70kB/s? 0 -
