Hi all,
Don't know how to put it all in words but here it goes......3 weeks ago i received an electricity and gas bill from npower for the amount of £1,320.01 left to pay and a monthly payment of £563.00. Bearing in mind until then i have been paying a monthly DD of £179.00 for gas and electric. The last time the meter was read was in January '14 and the reading stood at 66445. As of 3 weeks ago the reading was 79198 and today i read it again today at 79875 which for 3 weeks i thought that wasn't bad averaging 225 units for the week. But i can't get my head round the idea that 13k worth of units has been used in 6 months....its like 12 months worth within 6 months. All my spot lighting is LED, 2 tv's on at any time with sky boxes and there is only me and my wife at home. Plus with work we are out for over 9 hrs a day Mon to Fri. I've been on the phone to them and they are sending out someone to check the readings and to check the meter. I'm that paranoid i've even thought that someone had tapped into my electricity ( neighbour moved in 6 months ago ) Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Umm seem to be using rather a lot I average 70 Kwh per week a little more in Winter due to lights all are led now. Maybe your neighbours are using your power for canabis farm
My latest bill says 2,507kWh per annum

I'm assuming the meter readings you have given are for electricity?
225kwh per week is very high, especially for just 2 of you.
The UK average is supposedly 3200kwh per year which is about 61kwh per week. My 5 bed house with 3 adults uses about 4500kwh (which we are trying to cut down on!) which is 86kwh per week.
I would start taking daily meter readings, and try and work out if any of your appliances are using large amounts (an old chest freezer or immersion heater maybe?). Unplug and turn off everything you can and see if the meter is still moving?
Something definitely seems fishy. Good luck getting it sorted.0 -
Thank you for the replies....Npower did tell me to do a load test? which i have to take meter readings for a week and give them the result next wednesday.0

Are you using any electric for heating hot water. As said it does appear on high side. maybe turning everything off and back on one by one and see how much meter records. Or get a portable wireless meter like the owl give instant readings

thanks i'll look into that owl meter thing asap....are they easy to install? It's so frustrating to think that i'm using this much power. My hot water is coming from a combi boiler which i have on the lowest setting.0

Yes they are very easy to install you clip sender to electric main in meter cupboard and set the owl reciver also put in aa batteries. Set receiver up it can caulator your costs0
-
just to make sure, are you using an electric dial meter,6 rotating dials ?. They are always getting misread when the pointers align on borders0

It's the 6 dail one yes....the second dial is practically on the zero but they read it as a 9. thay did say if it was a zero i've over charged by over 9k units. which does sound right but its definitely a 9 sadly. Reading above comments i'm now looking out of the window thinking i should snoop to see if there is a cannabis farm in their garage!0
