...Probably better if you can to report the spammer once with a link to their user profile if it's a multiple spammer....

Yet in that past I recall a few people saying on serial spammers that they were sending email reports for each separate post, so some people do/did not quite seem to get that 'obviousness'. So I made that point just in case.

In the past I have reported just one post (and links to other posts that have been spammed by the same user) and found only the actual post I reported was removed.

When I questioned this of the FT, I was advised that they prefer a separate email report for each post or thread affected as they have so many to deal with, and so few people to deal with them. (Seems to me like more work for them, but they claimed it made it simpler & quicker for them). I also got the feeling the FT do not like going searching for issues, as that undermines the unique way this forum (based on legal advice given) is moderated.

So now I habitually report each post (or thread if appropriate) I wish the FT to review :)

Whilst others think that if the PTB can't get their house in order and start doing things in a sensible way, then do I really want to bother ... :(

And I've had them tell me the exact opposite. More than once.

I usually report just the user profile link of a spammer, and find that they tend to delete all the spam 95% of the time.

And no, finding the rest of a spammers posts to get rid of is a trivial and quick thing to do.

Oh well.... No way I'm going to send 40+ separate reports when one will do the job.

I think you are probably both right in a way.

I'm sure in the past I was informed that sending one report would suffice. Remember, that there are a number of individuals that review and process reports here at MSE... and being individuals they probably all have an individual take on matters.

However there have also been many changes in personnel at MSE especially since Martin sold the site.

One person who is still here is MSE Andrea, who now appears to be head honcho of the forum, and last year it was her that personally informed me that she needed individual reports as I reported here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=62584821&postcount=10

Fermi, where I do agree with you entirely is where you say:
"Oh well.... No way I'm going to send 40+ separate reports when one will do the job"
I later decided that too, and so don't bother reporting anything anymore, as I said here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=62895825&postcount=61

It really is just too much trouble, I'm afraid :(
  • So, Atidi's been told one thing and fermi the opposite - MSE Towers really need to work out which option they want and stick with it.

Was one point months ago when the kitchen spammers were sometimes signing up 10 -15 separate user-names overnight.

Not only was I submitting a list in a report email rather than reporting each individual post, but it was a list of links to the user profiles rather than the posts.

No-one objected, and they were dealt with.

To be honest, if the forum team had come back to me and told me to report each separate post, I would have politely told them "no way Jose".

The one report per post thing is fine if you are talking 2 or 3. With the sort of spamming this thread was originally talking about it is a ludicrous thing to ask.

That would be the thread title that includes the words '(and general)'?
The thread title was in fact changed when it was moved from the Bankruptcy Board. I was just carrying on the same conversation I was involved in over there.:p
