I believe it takes something like 40 clicks of the spam button for any action to be taken, I have seen some of these thread with over 80 views, either a lot of non-members view the threads or members are not hitting the button.
The worst case I've seen of spam not being removed in proportion to viewing numbers was 155 views.

As you say, "views" of the thread are not indicative of how many times the SPAM button is clicked. Regardless, clicking the SPAM button only makes the thread disappear from view-it's not fully deleted (and the poster PPRed) until a moderator agrees it is SPAM.

Better to simply report multiple spam threads immediately.

Posts/threads are never deleted, even by the Forum Team; they are just removed from public view meaning they are no longer being published by MSE.

So pressing the Spam button does the same thing.

Not all spammed posts/threads are necessarily reviewed by the Forum Team (unless specifically asked, in which case they may be left removed from public view or reinstated, as the case may be)

I think I also read something about auto PPRing of users who persistently spam (and are reported by the spam button), but not sure how that works exactly.

As many of these spams come onto the forum in what is (for the UK) the 'wee small hours', just who do you think will be available from the 'Forum Team' to deal with them at that time?
Enough people clicking the :spam: button (to remove it from view) is the nearest thing we will get to a real-time dealing with the issue.

Isn't that what some cliques of users rely on to get some other poster they don't like PPRd?
Enough button presses over a period of time and ... whoosh! PPRd. :(

Not going to comment on the actaul number, apart from to say it's much smaller than that.

Probably better if you can to report the spammer once with a link to their user profile if it's a multiple spammer.

Pretty much, although FT and BGs can come on at odd hours.

e.g. I'm on early most mornings and have a clean up of most of what I can find on my boards that hasn't been spam buttoned or otherwise dealt with.

As said, it's going to vary though and sometimes it will take time to sort.

Yes, I am sure there will be some users who will attempt to abuse the functionality.

However, a PPR'd person can always contact the site by email if they feel they have been the victim of such actions. The FT will look at the posts by that user that have been 'spammed' and decide whether or not such action was reasonable.

If it was found that a 'clique of users' have abused the functionality then I am sure the FT will do the right thing and reinstate the victim of such action, ... and one would like to think that the perpetrators of such action would receive a PPR themselves.

Now whether or not a newbie, who I would guess are often the victims of such action, would bother to ask the site to investigate is another matter. But if any regular user sees this happening to anyone else, they too could report their suspicions to the powers that be :)

Of course no one has to report more than one thread if it's obviously the same SPAM.

..and how many posters do you imagine will be active in the "wee small hours"? There is virtually no activity at all on the boards in question after 11PM.

In point of fact, the SPAM referred to in the thread title has been appearing with regularity mid morning around 9AM!

Regardless, this is a serial repeat offender of whom I doubt we have seen the last.

I'm pretty sure no "clique of users" have been abusing the system to report an Indian bordello!:D

Yet in that past I recall a few people saying on serial spammers that they were sending email reports for each separate post, so some people do/did not quite seem to get that 'obviousness'. So I made that point just in case.

Quite a lot of activity on some boards. The board originally in question is largely irrelevant once the thread has been moved here to general site feedback.

That would be the thread title that includes the words '(and general)'?
