No she just went to pick up a parcel for her daughter. Think she's thinking that being shouted at was wrong and it's like bullying.

I've told her to say sorry etc tomorrow but she doesn't seem to get it.

    Shouting is not bullying necessarily.

Bullying is demeaning someone for no good reason, and can include treating someone badly compared to how you would treat others.

To be honest, she should have asked manager whether she could leave first. Although that does depend upon the general culture at her workplace. Do others leave in the middle of work for a short while, for this type of reason?
  • There seem to be some apologist sheep on here.

Join the army if you want to be shouted at. Even there it isn't the best way to go about things.

You don't shout at people in the workplace.

    It is totally unacceptable.
  • Ah the good ol fail safe 'bullying' Being shouted at once clearly isn't bullying, it might not be right but it isn't bullying.

Your friend is on a hiding to nothing, she is the one that has left work unauthorised with no valid reason which is clearly a sackable offence.

How long has she been there?

    Almost a year.

I've given her my advice but she don't seem to want it. I've been shouted at before at work but never for one minute considered it bullying. I'll see what happens and if she takes it further!

Almost a year? She has no protection against unfair dismissal until she has worked there two years.

If the shouting was a one off does she really want to work with her boss looking for any reason to get rid easily?

Agree, but being shouted at once isn't bullying, tempers fray, it happens.

But its not bullying if it is a one off.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment you also don't waltz off to the PO in the middle of the working day without asking permission first, especially if you aren't using your lunch break.

Sometimes it's better to eat humble pie

There is also a right way of working - and that is not to go AWOL without checking with your manager first. Most people don't accuse their boss of bullying behaviour just because of one incident of shouting - particularly when they have brought it upon themselves.

Did your friend apologise at all, OP? Perhaps manager got angry with her because she didn't see to be treating the situation seriously.

    You are absolutely right.

I'm also sure that if every occasion of shouting in the workplace is to be treated as bullying, etc, the boss should find other employees who may be a little more tolerant. Shouldn't be too hard .....

How many times times do you eat it?

Are you suggesting because of the shortage of work then you just take it up the arris?
